Default Farm work

Hi everyone, just wondering can farm work such as harvesting or fruit-picking be a basis for applying work permit / work visa? I assumed that these kinda work might need alot of people on the field. I read about WHV and the seasonal working in new zealand, but are there any full time job for this? I dont know if farm work can be included as absolute skill shortage or a job that related to any recognized qualification, but since I planned to go to NZ to find a job offer either related with my work experience (accounting) or not, I guess it's not important anymore. Has anyone have this kinda experience before? Thanks before.

Hi Reiner

As you say, harvesting and fruit picking are seasonal jobs and it is often people on WHV who gets the jobs because they can only work for limited periods. Horticulture is very important in NZ but to get a job that will permit you to apply for PR you would need to have proper qualifications, I would think. Seasonal work wouldn't really be suitable for this as it isn't skilled and isn't permanent.

Perhaps using your accounting skills would be a safer option.

Hi,

As MB says, you wouldnt be able to get a work permit or PR etc for farm work of that nature, as it's not 'skilled', and is seasonal.

Thanks MotherBear and Taffy for your replies. I guess I'll just try on what I have experienced.
