Smile Work permit

I'm a Maths teacher who has been offered a job in New Zealand.I have finally registered with NZTC...and my job offer is initially for one year, but my intention is staying in New Zealand longer...Will I be able to get a work permit for longer than the lenght of my contract? Thank you :)

Hi Racquel

No, your WP is tied to your contract. If your job was to go on beyond the length of the WP you could apply for an extention but not the other way round. If you were to find another similar job you coud apply to vary your WP so that it shows the name of your new employer or I guess you'd have to apply for a new WP that is linked to your new job if your WP expires when your current contract does.

If you are a teacher and want to stay you will not have an issue. You are in demand.

Cheers.
