Red face Changing careers

I would like to apply for residency through the Skilled Migrant category, which I know I will score enough points through, but know that I dont plan to be in my current career for much longer after arriving in New Zealand . I plan to do further study and/or change careers entirely. Will I be checked after my arrival to make sure I am still woking in my 'skilled' field? Let me know if anyone has any experince of this.

Hi,

Once you have permanent residency, you are supposed to remain in your skilled employment for at least 3 months. I don't know of anyone being checked on this, but you never know!

Wouldn't this only apply if you gained extra points for a job offer and had to be seen to be at least attempting to make a go of the job rather than just using the offer to gain PR? A fair number of people get PR without having a job to go to so I reckon it might be a bit difficult trying to keep tabs on them once they were let loose in NZ.

Hi Becksly.
I have been in NZ 7 months now, and this is what I did. I got myself a job in my current industry, using my skill sets from my 9 years of experience in the UK. Through this I got PR as a skilled migrant. I sat this job out for 4 months, provided relevant information to immigration that I stayed in this job 3 months (as required), to lift my restrictions on my visa. I am now about to start a new job in a completely new industry now I have my PR with no restrictions.
I found this the easiest way, to ensure all ran smoothly. I wanted to change career ages ago, applying for jobs in NZ from the UK. However, they wouldn't give me a second glance without PR. However, in the industry I was in, employers were more interested, as I could bring a skill set and knowledge from Europe to the same industry in NZ.

Hope this makes sense, and good luck!!!
