Default Hello all....confused people here

Hi everyone,

apologies in advance if this turns into a bit of a ramble, but me and my partner are a tad confused........

We have been looking into and thinking about moving to New Zealand for some time and finally decided we should go for it.

My partner is at present 23 and a student nurse, training to be a children's nurse and will [hopefully] become qualified in the summer.

I am also 23, and I'm a trainee accountant, I've been working as one since i left school [nearly 8 years] but as yet don't hold any formal qualifications...my exams are in June.

We have a 4 year old daughter together [5 in June] and we've been on countless websites, official and otherwise and are really now more confused than when we first started looking into moving.

We're really confused about the different entry methods, skilled migrant, working visa etc...

We are planning on going to a 'jobs expo' in Leeds in 2 weeks, anyone had any experience of it? Also, are we likely to encounter any problems based on our age/fact we're not married?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give,

Michael

Firstly to the forum. The expo will give you a load of info and an indication as to whether your skills are needed. Have you checked out the Long Term Skill Shortage List on INZ. Not sure if accountants are needed but nurses certainly are. You could also try the points calculator Points Indicator to see if you will have enough points to try for the Skilled Migrant Category. Age should not be a problem - if anything you get extra points the younger you are. With regards not being married you just have to prove you are in a stable relationship and have been for more than 12 months.

Who will be the principal applicant? If it is your partner she won't be able to apply for PR or actually work in NZ until she has NZ nurse registration. For this she will need her UK registration first. NZ registration can take from 3 - 9 months which will give you an idea of the timescale you would be looking at.

Please ask away if you need any more help. Good Luck

Hi dont worry the whole process is confusing, my HO is in IT but falls under various catergories, were going to the leeds expo on the Saturday, hopefully things might become clearer then. Were planning on taking hard copies of our CV's to pass on to potential employers, nothing like a bit of networking.
Good luck with it all

As Nicky says, the fact that you're not married shouldn't be a problem at all. If you apply for residency or any long term visa where your partner is involved you will, at some stage, have to provide evidence that your relationship is genuine and stable and you've been living together for 12+ months. This applies to everyone, whether married or not so nothing to worry about.

The only problem you may face is lack of work experience, which will cut down the number of points you can claim and may possibly hinder your chances of getting work, but that's not to say you shouldn't try .
