Question WHV - Age limit confusion

Hello all - I am looking into obtaining a WHV and I'm running into a bit of mixed information that I hope someone here can clarify.

According to the NZ Immigration site, the age range for WHV for US citizens is 18-30 years of age:

United State Working Holiday Scheme

However, I am thinking of going through IEP/BUNAC which has an approved Work Exchange Scheme with the NZ Govt and according to their website, the age range for US citizens coming to NZ is 18-35:

BUNAC Eligibility Page

Does anyone know if the age limit has changed recently and perhaps Bunac has not updated their information or if Bunac has some special arrangement with NZ that exempts them from the 18-30 yr limitation?

Oh and I am 32 years old, hence my question :)

Kim

Hi Kim,

It doesn't mention any kind of visa on the BUNAC website, so I would imagine that it doesnt fall under the WHV scheme. As it refers to it as a student exchange scheme, you will most likely be issued with a student permit with special conditions to work, or maybe even a work permit. It says they have special approved arrangements with the NZ govt, so they will have something sorted!

To be certain though, it's probably best to contact BUNAC as they will know exactly what visa you require, and what it's limits are.

Taffy -
Contact the organization directly instead of asking random people on an internet forum? That's crazy Just kidding. I emailed BUNAC and will post their response as soon as I get it.

Thanks again,
Kim

Default Response

As promised, here is the response I received from BUNAC:

Hi Kimberly,

We are the only organization given permission by New Zealand immigration to offer our program to US citizens aged 18 to 35. You would be eligible for our program being 32.

Feel free to contact us with any further questions you may have.

Best,
