Default Nursing Agencies vs direct application

To all nurses out there - I am still unsure whether to go with a nursing recruitment agency or apply direct to the DHB's. I have already had an interview with Tonix who were lovely people and very helpful, I have also had a long converstaion with Geneva who were also very helpful. I have seen on the website for the DHB where I want to move to the list of vacancies and they have jobs in my area with an open closing date. Would I be better applying direct to them or not? Their application form wants to know if I have a visa but I need a job offer to apply for PR. In this case would I be better going through the agency? So many questions any help would be great.

Default Answer

There is no right answer to this, I can only go off my own experience of applying to the DHB. You will probably get more help and guidance with an agency but ultimately there goal is to put you with an employer so they get the commision. They aren't that bothereed if you are happy. They will put you with what they have on the books and it might not be in the area you want to go. You could do both. Apply with the DHB but let them know your situation. A lot are desperate for staff and will wait for you. Mine did, about 9 months.
Good luck anyway.
