Default Work permit/EOI and IT professionals

Hello everybody;

I am IT professional. I do not have a bachelors degree. I rather have a diploma in computer sciences (1 year duration and almost fully completed advanced diploma in Computer Science), in total it would be a 2 years qualification. The institute is singapore based with campuses in most of teh asian countries.

Should I complete a degree prior to teh submission of my eoi, do i stand a chance with alomst 7 years of highly technical work experience ( in the fields of computer telephony integartion, voip, ISDN interfacing, predictive dialing systems, wouting, switching etc), or perhaps i may not statnd a chance without a bachelors degree and valid job offer.

Securing a job offer may be difficult as i am off shore and do not have a bachelors degree. What can you suggest. Please advise.

Best regards.

Hello,

I know that things like your MSCE etc and some other IT qualifications like that go towards your PR. Do you have qualifiacations at that level?

Do you have any other non related IT qualifications? Correct me if I'm wrong but I am sure they go towards points on PR???

You can also start contacting companies and agencies to start looking for a job prior to this to see if anyone will sponsor you. There's no harm in trying.

Good luck with it all... :)

Amy;

Thanks for responding. Apart from a formal diploma in computer science, no i dont have any other non IT related qualifcation.

As for the certifications that you implied to; yes i am sitting my ccna soon and then subsequently my ccvp (both being cisco certtifications).

I had tried a few recruitment agencencies, they had been nice enough to respond and advise that nz IT employers prefer to see the candidates onshore, and may not be willing to hire somebody based out of nz.

The dilemma is, that i can go back to the uni and comeplete my bachelors, but then i am looking at around 2 years of full time studies. Its quite a time as i might lose points for age and immigration policies may change in the interim.

Things are not looking to bright for me i am afraid. :-[

Have you used the points indicator on the NZIS website? I've got no formal qualifications in IT, but had 10 years work experience so I made it on experience and a job offer. The important bit, of course, is the job offer.

We took the gamble and came to NZ without a job offer on visitors permits, and because we were here it was much easier to get a job, which led on to our residency.

What you do depends on your personal circumstances, and what you'd prefer to do I guess. Do the degree to gain the points, or take the risk and move, and hopefully find a job for the points.
