Default Re: Work permit, question about police certificate

I find it quite stupid if they really mean that I can't apply for a work permit after 3 months my student visa expires. I just got my foot in a door and they are quite happy to support/sponsor me to get the permit.

My understanding is that if i'm on a different visa/permit(some students can't get a graduate work permit) then I have to apply for a work permit visa within 3 months.. in my case I'm on graduate job search permit so as long as I could provide the evidence that i'm on the permit then I should be fine.. :)

Thanks for your help again. I will ask again or update you when I find out more.

Mother,
this may be a great news.

We both know that I'm on the Graduate Job Search Permit. Here is a short guideline to obtain the graduate permit.
http://www.immigration.govt.nz/nzis/...anual/7537.htm

This may mean that my qualification is valid under the skilled migrant category.
On the other hand, I'm still worried about the blue lined bits.. I just got an offer after 4-5 months of job hunting.. so what can I do about it...?

I will go talk to the immigrations about this on 3rd Jan.

Quote:
WD2 Graduate job search work visa/permit

See WD2 Effective 04/07/2005

1. People who have:
1. successfully completed in New Zealand a qualification that would qualify for points under the Skilled Migrant Category (see SM14); and
2. apply for a work visa/permit no later than 3 months after the end date of their student permit for that qualification,

may be granted a work visa and/or permit for a maximum of 6 months.
2. To be eligible for a work visa and/or permit under this policy, applicants must not previously have been issued or granted a visa or permit under this policy.
3. Evidence of an offer of employment is not required.
4. Applicants must provide:
1. a completed work application form and fee; and
2. evidence that they have completed a qualification in New Zealand that would qualify for points under Skilled Migrant Category (see SM14); and
3. evidence that they have a minimum of $2,100 in funds available to maintain themselves during their 6 month stay in New Zealand (travellers' cheques or bank documents in the applicant's name are acceptable); and
4. evidence that the work visa/permit application is being made no later than 3 months after the end date of their student permit for that qualification.
5. Any work visas/permits issued or granted under this policy, may be endorsed with conditions that allow work for any employer.

ah.. i'm seriously confused..
WD1 ...
WD2 Graduate job search work visa/permit

Now I look in my passport and it doesn't state that the visa/permit I hold are for graduates.. Mine just says

"Work Permit" & "Work Visa" for 6months, The holder may work as any occupation for any employer in NZ.

Another update, I found a letter from the Immigration that I recieved when I got the current visa/permit.

"We are writing with regard to your application for a work permit which was accepted for consideration on..

We are pleased to inform you that your application for a work permit has been approved.

You may now undertake employment in NZ in the occupation and at the place specified on your work permit.

submit
-medical cert
-chest x-ray cert
- and police cert
"
They never mention about the GRAUATE job search permit/visa????

Very odd. ?I was under the impression that you had to have a job offer before you could apply for a general Work Permit. ?If you HAVE got a general WP and not a Graduate one, I suppose all you need to do is renew it, but I think I'd check with the NZIS and ask them to explain why they're calling it a WP and not a Graduate Permit. ?In their writings about the GP, they do refer to it as a WP and that is very confusing. ?You need to have it clarified exactly what type of permit you have before you can move forward.

Either way, I guess you're covered, but you do need to have the situation explained. If you had a WP, it should state in your passport who your employer is as I believe you have to stick with them until either your permit runs out or you gain PR.
