Default Very confused over which Visa to apply for..

Hi everyone, seems like a great site this, so I would really appreciate a bit of advice.
I have a job offer for NZ as I am a Nurse and my girlfriend is coming along ( we have lived together for over 12 months etc) but I am unsure what visa to apply for, I know a temporary Visa /work permit would be ok for me as I would have a job and could apply for residency later, but would employers be put off hiring my girlfriend due to her being on my temp visa? Would it therefore be better to go down the skilled migrant route although the cost of this and the medical checks etc put me off this one a bit.?

    Thanks very much

Welcome and well done on securing a job. I'm sure others will be along soon who can help you with the different visa's. If you have a job and as a nurse you should have no problem getting PR and your partner could be included as long as you can prove you have been together for 12 months. Once you have PR she would have no problem getting a job (if jobs are available). As I understand it - and I may be wrong- but the cost of applying and getting PR once in NZ is cheaper (well the medicals are cheaper!!). Not sure about what visa you could get other than PR -have you had a good look round the INZ site? I know it is confusing but you may 'accidentally' find the right one

    Hi Lee,

Getting a work permit for longer than 12 months isn't much of a saving. You still have to have a medical and police checks done, then when you apply for PR later on, you have to pay for it all again.

Your girlfriend being on a partnership visa would only have an impact on her getting a job due to it's length. They may not want to offer permanent employment to a temporary visa holder. As long as the employer knows you are going for PR though, I doubt it will be an issue.

Ok that was really helpful thanks for the replies. Will probably just go down the PR route then its done.
    Cheers
