    Smile Separated/Work Permit/Want to stay

    Hello,,

Ive a got a Co worker/friend, that's on a work permit who is dependent to her husband,,but now the wife has decided to separate from the husband,,because he is ill treating her,,the husband threaten the wife that he will cancel his sponsorship and her work permit. at the moment my friend is working full time, and wants to stay here in new zealand to work, is there a way for her to extend her work permit without a sponsor or being dependent to anyone,,she is working full-time and she has excellent skills in the Heath Care field. her work permit will expire on may,,but the husband may have canceled his sponsorship. Please Help! Thanks you

    Hi,

I wouldn't like to say whether the husband could cancel her work permit, certainly without her knowledge.

If she has suitable job skills, she could probably apply for her own work visa, but it might be a good idea for her to speak to INZ regarding the matter so they can advise the best way to go forward on this. How it is handled depends largely on what the husband has done/is going to do about her visa, if anything. Once the situation is made clear, a satisfactory solution to this problem can, hopefully, be found.

The husband can't cancel her visa, only Immigration can do that. As MB has said, get in touch with Immigration as soon as possible and explain the situation. There are provisions for relationship breakdowns, but I don't know the exact details and whether these would apply in your case, sorry!
