Default Work Permit-how long does time of waiting??

    Hello Everyone...
Just would like to ask one question.
I applying for PR (Partnership Category)and Work Permit in the same time.My previous
WP has expired 2 months ago.I know it gonna take 12 months to get PR,but don't know how long should I wait for my WP?? I can't work and I have to wait PR,maybe 12 months..I have sent my application to INZ 2 month ago and still no answer..My CO does not replay to my phone calls and emails>I was trying to call to Call Center-only one answer-still processing, you have to wait..
Do they have dead line of application's processing time??
    Thank you.

    Default Hi Yorke

You say your work permit expired 2 months ago. Does that mean you have been in NZ without a valid permit or do you have something else that is allowing you to stay ?

A PR application can take up to 12 months depending on where you lodged it. So-I would forget about that for the moment and focus on the more pressing matter of your temporary work permit. I have been granted two in the last 2 years under partnership and they both took approx 4 weeks to process at the wellington branch. My application was straight forward ie no medical or character issues. If you have been in NZ for the last 2 months without a valid permit then this may be contributing to the delay. Staying in NZ illegally is seriously frowned upon by immigration and they advise people to apply for a renewal of permits at least 3 months before teh expiration of the current one.

Hi and thank you for your answers.
YES,MY work permit expired 1 month ago,but I have sent my application 2 months ago, when my WP still was valid.
4 weeks for processing-that is good time..
My previous application took about the same time, but now.....already more than 2 months..My employer needs me to work now,I can't,so have a chance to loose my job...

    Yorke,

As to my knowledge, you are not staying illegally as you have submitted the application before the expiry date and would be consider as IN PROCESS stage. However, you must not work during these period while waiting for the approved WP as it would be illegal for you and your employer. As for the processing time, 2 months is a little bit long for a WP under partnership. My partner got hers aropund 3 weeks time in Auckland. Good luck

    Default Hi Yorke,

Now I am a little confused- sorry I may have misunderstood your first post. In your first post you said your WP expired 2 months ago. But it actually one month ago ? But you applied for a new WP 2 months ago.

Let us know how you get on :)

Hello.Just would like to explain my situation..Sorry,if you don't understand my post.
I had WP under Partnership Category for 1 year.Got it very easy-last year.
This year-1 month before my WP expired,I have applied for new WP under Partnership Category again, and the same time for PR (2 month ago).I was working 1 month until my WP expired.NOW,already 1 month I don't work and just waiting for my WP.So,I am waiting my WP already 2 months, and no decision..
Does someone know, how long they can keep my documents?
    Do they have deadline time?
    Thanks

Our work permit renewal took 2 months... one month of that was after expiry, and they didn't mention it.

I'm interested to hear that you were advised to apply 3 months before expiry, qdawg86. Our letter said to apply 30 days before expiry, which we did, but then it took another whole month. Got it back today without a letter or anything... I think that Immigration NZ is going through a rough patch!

We were told that we could choose to either wait it out, or leave NZ and apply from overseas. I would imagine that you should get it back soon... 2 months seems like an awfully long time (ours got referred to medical specialist which explains some of the delay).

    Default Hi

Glad you got your visa sorted eventually Hesperus. Although I feel it is important to note that immigration did advise you that you should apply 30 days in advance. This was obviously how long they estimated it would take to process the type of visa you applied for, at a particular branch, at a particular time of year. In qdawgs case this was 3 months. Considering it was their under-estimation and it in fact took 2 months, I can see why they had no problem with you being here after your visa expired. I dont think immigration would ever advise someone to apply 2 months after the expiry of a visa- as in Yorkes case.
