    Default A timely warning

Checking receipts shows the price is not always right

It is worth checking your receipts.

Yesterday, most shoppers said they never bothered checking - but one who did so immediately found an error.

Edward Robinson had to return to Foodtown Quay St yesterday after he was overcharged for a Raid Robocan insect repellent. His receipt showed he paid $22.95 when the displayed price was $18.99.

The supermarket attendant didn't know the cause of the error but Robinson was refunded the full amount. "The incentive is on them to get it right," he said.

Megan Marshall, who was loading her car with groceries, said she always checked her receipts thoroughly because most times there was a mistake.

"I usually go around with a calculator and always argue the price. I am a student and I have four children, we are all on strict budgets. There is no way they are going to get away with charging me 20c more for something."

Sam Malekar said: "Almost every time I find something but today it was okay. It happens once a week. Especially the last two months I have been checking because it is costing so much."

    From here.
