Default Air NZ domestic routes -New charges for extra baggage

I guess this will affect those travelling from Auckland to other NZ destinations.

$15 for second bag, but it's free for frequent flyers in Air NZ changes

Air New Zealand will charge domestic travellers $15 for a second bag as part of an overhaul to airport check-ins.

Occasional travellers will be allowed one bag free but be charged $15 for a second one, an extra $50 for a third and $150 for a fourth.

Domestic luggage allowance will increase to 25kg a passenger.

The airline's existing $5-a-kilogram excess baggage charge starts at 23kg, so a 25kg bag would cost $10 under the present system.

Frequent flyers - travellers who are Gold, Gold Elite or Koru Club members - will get two free bags under the new regime.

Some items, including wheelchairs and other medical equipment, will be exempt from the new charges.

But items such as golf clubs will count as a second bag.

The Herald reported in April that the airline was considering charging between $10 and $20 for a second bag.

No changes are to be made to hand-luggage rules.

    More here.

Delta airlines is increasing it's second checked bag charge for domestic flights from $25 USD to $50 USD for travel commencing on August 5th. But, guess who is flying from Dayton, Ohio, to Los Angeles on Delta on August 4 - with two checked bags! I'm hoping I can just check everything through to Auckland from Dayton and not have to pay anything.

    I'm getting so excited!

Isn't that a great feeling! Well done, 1HW.

Good luck with the flight and starting your new life in NZ.

Thanks, MB! I think I have packed and re-packed several times, now. Not that easy to try to figure out what I'll need, and take out some things I want to take but probably won't be able to.

It just doesn't seem real! I've been waiting so long, and now it's only a couple of days away!
