Meridian Energy is hiking residential electricity prices by an average of six per cent from September.

The rise will hit 200,000 customers. It means the average bill of $175 per month will go up by around $13.

The increase follows rises by most other companies. Meridian says customers will be advised of the increase by mail this week.
