Well, they do say what goes up must comes down. Aaaah, if only that were true (apart from this particular case, of course ) .

    Bring it on!

Cheap oil is gone and will not return. It will go to $200 USD a barrel before it stops. It trimmed off because US consumption has gone down. Finally I guess it sunk in to conservea fter it hit $4 usd a gallon.

Oh I quite agree, cheap oil is a thing of the past and $200 per barrel won't be too far off

It was just a bit of a shock when I was driving past a garage yesterday and saw the price had gone down, I did a double-take

They've got the hang of it now.

    Gull drops fuel price 1c
    12:46PM Friday July 18, 2008

Oil company minnow Gull dropped their petrol price by a further one cent this morning.

It follows a four cent drop by Gull, BP and Shell yesterday.

Gull's New Zealand regional manager David Bodger said the company had been watching the international crude oil market.

Oil prices dropped by a further US$4 overnight, adding to a decline of more than 10 per cent from last week's record on worries over US demand and easing political tensions between Iran and the West over its nuclear programme.

"We just like helping people out and there was an opportunity to pass that on and we traditionally sit a cent below the major oil companies anyway," Mr Bodger said.

He declined to comment on whether Gull's move could influence the company's larger competitors.

"We haven't seen what's come through for crude come all the way through to refined prices yet," Mr Bodger said.

Meanwhile, Automobile Association spokesman Mark Stockdale said further relief for motorists could be on the way.

Isnt it funny how a jump up in crude marks an increase in pump price almost immediately, but a drop in price takes time to come through to the refined price. I don't think they can go above the current record without being majorly impacted themselves, it's gone beyond the point of people just paying because they have to, to simply not being able to afford it. I would always fill the car whenever it needed filling, now it's just a few bucks here and there. Add to that the major leaps in food prices (WG's McVities choccy biccies nearly doubled in price, so she's had to give up those as well as smoking!) it seems that all we live and work for is the bank and the oil companies.

    Deviating a bit, but...?????

    Petrol hits pups
    5:00AM Sunday July 20, 2008

The SPCA has hiked its prices for adopting kittens and puppies. Wellington SPCA, which runs shelters in the capital city and on the Kapiti Coast, has increased the cost of adopting a puppy from $250 to $400 and a kitten from $150 to $210, the Dominion Post reported.

Kapiti shelter manager Lloyd Warren said they had been forced to raise fees. "We have been crippled by petrol costs. We just have to have more income to cover our costs."

    From here.

In these hard times how do they imagine anyone is going to be able to afford to take on a new pup or kitten, let alone one that is almost double the original price? I thought they would have been giving them away just so they wouldn't have the burden of feeding them.

    Petrol drops another four cents
    Updated 1:20PM Monday July 21, 2008

All four of the main fuel stations knocked another 4c a litre off the price of petrol this morning but left the price of diesel unchanged.

Prices for 91-octane dropped to $2.11 a litre with diesel remaining at $1.88.

Independent company Gull remained the cheapest for petrol by 1c at $2.10 per litre for 91-octane and 2c cheaper for diesel at $1.86.

The falls follow a 4c fall at the pump late last week as a result of declining world prices for crude oil.
