Angry More dairy price rises coming

7:00AM Saturday May 31, 2008

Consumers are warned to expect another round of dairy product price rises.

Hours after Fonterra announced a record forecast payout to its farmers of $7.90 a kg of milk solids, an increase of 60c since April, the head of its consumer brands business said prices were being reviewed and could increase within six weeks.

Any increase would affect common brands Mainland, Anchor, Tip Top and Fresh'n Fruity.

It would also affect prices charged by competing companies.

Boy, food prices all over are going up. Karin said she spent 4.75USD on a half gallon of milk. Maybe I should expand the veggie garden and get some hens. I don't think I have space for a cow, though.

Oh yes, the milk solids went up. In the same time Fonterra is signing a huge deal with China to export huge amounts of milk solids (remember "we" signed the Free Trade Agreement lately and Helen Clark promised that "we" would profit from it. Question is who is gaining and who is loosing...)
