National set for landslide victory - poll
11:34AM Saturday May 17, 2008

A poll published today has the opposition National Party on track for a landslide election win with a 27-point lead over Labour, up 9 points on its lead in the same poll in April.

The Fairfax Media poll which questioned 1091 people between May 7 and May 13 has National's support up 4 percentage points to 56 per cent while Labour has slipped 5 to 29 per cent compared with an April poll.

The Greens remain steady on 6 per cent, New Zealand first are up to 2 to 5 per cent while the Maori Party slips one point to 2 per cent and Act and United Future are stuck on 1 per cent.

If National can stay steady and not have any major screw ups they have it in the bag. Yeah!

I remember being on this forum and going through the last election. Quite a few people were sweating because of the opposition's proposed changes to the immigration policies, which would move the goalposts in the wrong direction and make it even more difficult to get into NZ. It was quite a nailbiting time .

I could do without stress like that now because it's getting close to the time when we're about to make our application.

Anything is possible when you have a change of government, National has not said anything about changing the immigration policies.

Labor has been in for while and it is not now very business friendly climate here. I hope this can change.

Cheers,

Now Don Brash isnt the proposed PM, then a change to National could be good. Auntie Helen is off ruining the economy at the moment with all her Free Trade Agreements with countries no one else will touch. There's already been something like 1500 job losses in the last few weeks which the govt is saying is completely unrelated, but the managers of the companies are saying its a direct contributing factor! I think Helen knows her days are numbered so she's trying to leave as much devastation as she can for National to sort out, so Labour can blame them for a poor economy come the next election.

I don't think National will cause any major concerns with immigration. They make noises about tightening it up, but I doubt that will be any time soon.

You may get some changes because the Immigration Minister (Thompdon) just did a runner because she helped family get in and possibly lied on her CV. She has been in Government for quite a few years. They may use this as justification there needs to be some changes in immigration. There were also come complaints regarding actions of staff.

Although it has been a few years since i dealt with them I found INZ staff very helpful here in NZ. They want to help and assist you but don't lie then you are dog food. If you have an issue then address it and don't hide it. If you hid that they are then suspicious of you and the overall information you have presented wondering what else is not correct.

It is nerve wracking wondering if everything is going to be ok. You want in so bad you can taste it.

Just understand the due diligence by INZ is to keep put unwanted illegals. There is a reason for all the documentation and they are good at finding out the truth. Just never lie.

Cheers
