Tomatoes NZers' top 'vegetable' - survey

Tomatoes are New Zealand's favourite vegetable.

Statistics NZ's household economic survey also found bananas were the most popular fruit.

New Zealanders spent $111 million on bananas and $96 million on tomatoes last year.

The top 10 vegetables were: tomatoes, potatoes, lettuce, mushrooms, carrots, capsicums, broccoli, kumara, onions and cucumbers.

Top 10 fruit: bananas, apples, oranges, mandarins, grapes, strawberries, avocados, kiwifruit, pears and nectarines.
