Angry UK abolishing Kiwi ancestry visa?

When you think of those who they ARE letting in in droves and don't have any connection with the UK. Hope this doesn't have any repercussions.

Britain set to abolish Kiwi ancestry visa
4:42PM Friday February 22, 2008

The British government is considering axing the rights of its Commonwealth ancestors to live and work in the United Kingdom.

The visa currently enables New Zealanders aged 17 and over with British grandparents to four years residency with full working privileges.

After four years in the United Kingdom, Commonwealth residents can apply for full residency in the United Kingdom, a path followed by many.

The current system, established in 1972, threatens to be replaced by a points-based system, with tougher restrictions New Zealand and other Commonwealth citizens seeking permits and obtaining British citizenship.

Unbeleivable- just confirms one of the reasons we are leaving the UK. They have no idea what they are doing or how to run the country.

They are going to make it even harder for genuine people to come and live and WORK here but make it so easy for those who just come to Live here and claim all our benefits.

Default UK immigration

I think the one thing that finally made up my mind about leaving the country was when I became an immigration officer two years ago. Oh the stories I could tell but can't!! Needless to say, what you see on the news is just the tip of the iceberg.

Here, here. Then they wonder why skilled workers are leaving in droves

Default Immigration

Imagine a 747 on the tarmac at Heathrow - fill it with illegal immigrants and send them on their way home - when it comes back again, fill it again and so on. It would take 20 (twenty) YEARS to send back all of the KNOWN illegals in this country. I think that was actually in one of our newspapers but it was confirmed to me a while ago!

Thats probably why the UK now has free movement with most of Europe. One simple change like that probably means a million less illegal immigrants on the books! Come election time, they can say 'we reduced the illegal migrant population by 1 million', even though no one has actually left.

Yes Molly - it's true. The Government were thinking of declaring an amnesty where any unknown illegal who declared their presence would be looked at favourably when it came to getting permanent residence but they decided that might not be a great idea!! They are however thinking of increasing the final application fee for citizenship from ?575 to ?2000. I'm not sure if that is a way of swelling the HO coffers or a way of putting people off from applying.

Probably a way of encouraging even more illegal immigrants. I doubt putting up the fee will stop them - it'll just stop them applying to be 'legal'. Why pay the fee when you can get to stay anyway?

And here's yet another UK bloomer.

UK village backs Kiwi facing deportation
11:22AM Monday February 25, 2008

Residents of a north England village are rallying behind a New Zealand sports coach facing deportation after his work permit expired.

Kerry Hurst, 32, moved to the Cumbrian village of Kirkby Stephen seven years ago, where he has been credited with setting up a thriving youth group for teenagers and reviving the fortunes of the local rugby and cricket teams.

His original five-year work permit expired in February 2007.

He worked as an accounts manager for a bakery which changed its name after being taken over, and his failure to alert the Home Office of the change of company name led to allegations he lied in efforts to remain in Britain, the Sunday Sun newspaper reported.

He has been told to leave England by the end of April.
