Default Hotel prices going up?

Hotel prices too cheap - NZ tourism chief
The Dominion Post | Monday, 11 June 2007

Kiwi holidaymakers will be hit in the wallet if a call for hotels to raise their prices by 10 per cent is taken up by the industry.

Tourism New Zealand chief executive George Hickton said increasing the price of hotels was a key part of boosting the amount spent by tourists.

The call was welcomed by Hotel Council chief executive Mark Oldershaw, who said hotel tariffs had not risen by more than $10 a night in the past 10 years.

He conceded higher prices would hurt Kiwis, but said sensitivity to their concerns should not hold the industry back.

"New Zealanders may have got used to overly cheap prices, but when you consider the labour costs, furbishing costs and overhead costs, it is inevitable that these prices are going to increase."
