Udderly amazing: secret herd gives low-fat milk

New Zealand scientists have bred cows that can produce low-fat milk.

In a world first, Fonterra scientists are breeding cows that produce milk that is also high in omega3 oils, claimed to improve brain power and contains polyunsaturated fat.

Saturated fats found in normal milk are linked to increased risk of heart disease.

The cows, which have a particular genetic mutation, were bred from a single female discovered by researchers when they screened milk from millions of cattle.

Fonterra sustainable milk growth general manager Mark Leslie said the cow, named Marge, had emerged during the company's routine screening programme.

I noticed that MB seems to have a recent fixation with cows. I am a bit concerned over her use of the word cows and Bermy Girl and ShellBda all in the same post. I told you to stay away from the grass.

You're not harping on about my smiley fixation, are you ? Nothing wrong with that. It's nice to have lots of little people around me for company. Shell, with her Irish background, would understand about leprechauns and smileys are my version of leprechauns, except they're generally better behaved.

I think we were hinting at your more recent fixation with the bovines...can't really put that down to smilies...they are far too big......make a lot of noise too...
