Hmmm, that doesn't tie up either because Taffy has over 1000 posts but he still only has one medal. He never did answer the query put by Beth (I think) about how the system works. We all have pretty coloured bars and statistics but no one knows how it all works and what we're aiming for.

It's not just about posts. The system calculates a wide variety of things. What you get points for:

Starting threads
Posting replies
Reading threads
Being an active member of a social group etc etc

The medals are awarded based on a combination of your activities, like you'll get an activity award if you spend a lot of time on the site, a community award if you start a lot of threads and spend time on the site etc. So basically, the more you use the forum and take part, the better you score and more chances of you getting a medal.

There's 10 medals to be won in all, and only 3 have been issued so far. Let's see who can get the others

MB, you're so far ahead of everyone else that you've reached the maximum of the system settings (level 100). If I increased it to allow you to work for medals etc again, no one else would stand a chance! You can rest in the knowledge that you'll probably carry the posting award for eternity though

So, considering I had 2 medals when this system first started up, does that mean we can have them taken away again if we don't perform, seeing as I now only have 1?

You don't want to make the goals too unachievable or folks just won't bother. If I've got that many posts on record and only have 1 medal, what hope is there for anyone else?

I think I've found the root of the 'slowness' problem. I've been monitoring the performance and it turns out that the server can no longer handle the volume of traffic coming through the site! It's fine until the server needs to do something else, like perform a backup etc, at which point it all goes haywire. It's several years old now, and is the last of it's kind in the data centre

Unfortunately, at just under NZ$400 per month for it's replacement, the site may have to be slow for a while longer yet!

Right Taffy- I have noticed the same problem I had with the forum home page is the same on each page- didn't notice before as i just usually got to New Threads but when I have been to the main page for each section it isn't lined up right.
