Location/activities thread

Taffy, do you have any suggestions for collating info on places and things to do by area?

If we had a separate thread for each location it would take up a fair bit of room so would maybe have to be just North Island and South Island. Would it be worth adding a new category to the main menu with those titles or just put stickies at the top of the Locations/Properties category?

I think a revamp and upgrade of the area guide on the website would be best, rather than on the forum. If its on the site, more people will get use of it being a static feature, than just a heap more info in the forum!

But will people use it or even find it? ?You can see from one of Glenda's posts today, she wasn't even aware the webpage existed and I must admit I never use it as it appears to be stagnant and the link is very 'low profile'. ?The link implies that, if you click on it, it could just take you back to the forum rather than to another completely different area. Perhaps altering 'Back to the Website' to 'Homepage' might differentiate it a bit but I don't know what could be done to highlight and direct people to a new location site so they are aware it exists, especially future new members who may not have been party to this exchange of ideas.

You've been coming here so long now you've forgotten that 99% of new people go through the website first, prior to looking at or joining the forum! The website itself has many people passing through on a daily basis.

According to my stats, the area guide gets looked at quite often, being the 5th most popular page on the whole site (1st being the home page, second the forum)!

I've got the forum saved to My Favourites so, yes, I do tend to by-pass the Homepage, which might also apply to other established members. ?It could be difficult for others though who can't find their way back from the forum to the 'website' (as you call it, although I'd call the forum a website as well). ?That link at the top is very discreet and, for those of us that don't use the Homepage very much, we could forget or not even be aware it's there, as in Glenda's case.

A location site is important but if we don't visit the Homepage very often (or at all, discounting new folks) we wouldn't necessarily be aware that someone had posted some good info on there whereas, on the forum, it's there for all to see. Would it mean that we'd have to visit the Homepage as well every time we visit the forum in case there's something new on there?

You'd better believe it. ?I bought a new mouse a couple of months ago and it's eating 2 x AAA batteries per week. ?I'm going for economy of movement now to make them last a bit longer. ? :D

Whatever, but it goes to show that if Glenda, an esteemed and long-standing member, can't find it, how will others manage? My main concern is that regular folks might not think to look on there and could miss something. We won't know if and when there's owt new on there.? Doesn't bother me where it goes as long as it's visible to all.

Hope that the new thread/category/page or whatever it'll be will come about a bit quicker than the photo upload site that's been pending since before the war. ? ::)
