Default Re: The Wish List

This is not only providing a wish list from the old forum, but also a ?not very happy with? list from this current forum in case some stuff can be rectified.

Things I prefer from the old forum
Front page was quite smart with it?s colour scheme.
Message text was blacker and stood out more, plus I liked having the red on the index as well which broke up the bland look.
Being able to reply directly from a post rather than go out of it, go to the top, click Log in, then find my way back to the post I want to reply to. ?
Much better Search facility. ?9 times out of 10 I could find what I wanted.

Things I like from the new forum
Greater variety of ?extras? available. ?More font sizes, colours, ability to insert tables, ?move? facility etc. to play with.
View 10 most recent posts ? useful if you?re in a hurry
More privacy as people must log in to be able to read members? personal info

Things I don?t like from the new forum
Pale coloured text which doesn?t ?ask? to be read.
Longer messages often need editing to tidy up margin alignment i.e. text doesn?t always line up against the left hand margin and you?re left with occasional untidy indentations.
Inconvenient method of replying to posts i.e. can?t click on reply from the actual post unless you?re already logged in. ?I usually ?read? then log in if I want to reply to a post. ?Previously I could click Reply and it would take me to the log in screen, then back to the message (I think).
Dreadful Search facility. ?Not very user friendly and too bulky when it does get round to giving answers. ?Old forum one was tidier and easier to sift through.
Confusion with Today and Yesterday posts. ?Before logging in I can see posts I made ?today? being classed as being made ?yesterday?. ?When I log in (and the time adjusts to my own zone) it reverts to ?Today?. ?My main gripe with this is that other people looking in, who haven?t logged in, would see the Index as showing no current Today posts and might leave the forum unread. ?No doubt this is due to everything being shown in NZ time which converts to the user?s own time only after logging in.
Pages can be slow to load and you have to wait until they load up completely. ?Sometimes gives the impression that's all there is until, suddenly, you see more has come up.
Doesn't go to last post. ?We have to scroll down the page to find the current posts.
Need more smileys - bags I get to do them. ?

That?s what I?ve come up with so far, but it?s early in the morning and the old brain is just gearing up. Might dream up some more things before too long. ?I think some of my problems with the new forum stem from all the difficulties we?ve had with getting it running and trying to tidy it up. ?Just have bad karma about it. ?I usually like new things, but this one just went from bad to worse, from my point of view. ?Perhaps a 'fresh start' with it would help.

Oh, and the avatars are a bit small on this forum. Would be nice to have them a little bigger i.e. like the old forum ones. ;)

I won't comment on the dark GREY ? :o background for the category menus, Taffy, as you're obviously working on suitable colour schemes.

Another point, on Search (new forum) I can't go back. ?It tells me that the page has expired or something and I have to repeatedly resubmit my information which is really hard when you're trying to find something and need to go in and out of different threads.

Members' locations don't show up. I entered mine in my profile and I know they CAN be displayed as I've seen it on the YaBB forum. It's just useful when replying to people if you know where they're coming from or whether they're in NZ or not. No good giving UK type advice to someone from the US.

Are you winding me up?!! ?When I click on a category and go into its menu, the screen is now dark grey with no lines in between the topics. ?It doesn't look too bad, I'm just a bit anti-grey as it can be depressing, especially 'storm' grey. Please someone, tell me I'm not the only one that sees this? ?As far as I can ascertain, I was the only one that admits to having seen the hacker's notice on the old forum. ?What's going on? ?

You've probably gone to bed by now so I guess I'll be hanging in suspenders until you return to confirm what most people are thinking i.e. that I've gone completely bonkers. ? [smiley=Tease.gif] I can't even post pics of the screen as we don't have a photo upload facility and I don't have a url for it.

P.S. ?I've found the smileys, by the way! ? ;D ?The odd one (off topic 3) is duplicated. ?Could do with a bigger window so they aren't all squashed up together - smileys have rights as well, you know. ?And what's with all the violent ones - heaps of guns we didn't have before? ?Is that so we're well-prepared for the next hacking attack?

Mother Bear, the dark grey just appears for half a second in my case when clicking between posts or categories. ?Perhaps it is slower to load in your case?

I do wonder about the inch gap on the right hand side of my screen. :-?

Yes, just ten minutes ago I put a post in the "smilies are back" thread about the aggressive smilies! ? [smiley=icon_lol.gif]

Otherwise ... the new forum seems fine.

When the grey screen loaded, it stayed there, like a permanent feature. ?I thought it was just Taffy experimenting with new colour schemes. ?It was a very dark forbidding grey, however, today, I now have a normal colour page again..

I do wonder about the inch gap on the right hand side of my screen. ?:-? ?I've lost mine now but instead have a dark blue border all the way around, like the forum page is too small for the screen.

Oh, seem to have lost my quote box. Quote is open to the page, not in a box like usual.

I can just about see the quote box when it's on the greyer sections and it appears as merely a lighter area. ?Probably won't see it at all on the white sections.

I'm back on the editing again ?[smiley=Computer_punch.gif] but when I save an edit it takes me to the top of the page instead of back to the post I've just edited. ?I'm positive last time I was editing it returned me conveniently back to check on my handiwork. ?As it is now, I have to scroll down the page each time to work on the next post. ?Makes it very time consuming. ? ?>:(

Definitely need a colour for clickable links. ?Hardly distinguishable between them and normal text, especiall for peeps that aren't aware of how to tell they are there.

Just take a look at the NZ Website List.
