I voted yes cos it's just taken me 10 minutes to work out how to post a reply!! eeek! (I'm not stupid - honest.... ?:-/ )

I also miss the 'see new post since last visit' function. As I don't get on here very much any more, and when I do it's just a quick visit, I'm sure I miss some new posts cos I generally only look in the general section.

Anyway, just my 2 cents worth! :) Apart from that, it's all good Taffy (although I voted 'yes' for the 2 reasons i just mentioned)

Hi Jodie,

I think we're sort of stuck with the new forum that now looks a bit like the old forum and this is mainly due to security measures. ?The old forum's security let us down badly whereas the new forum has more in place to keep us that bit safer and we hope not to have a repeat of the dramas of the last few weeks.

I, too, find some things on this forum more difficult to use, but I guess I'll get used to it in time. ?I also find the colour scheme a bit wishy washy, but it's looking better than it was. I guess we'll continue to evolve over time.

For speed, you can see the last 10 posts by clicking at the bottom of the main menu but if, like yourself, you don't look in that often, 10 posts won't show you half of what's gone on since the last time you looked in.

New forum or old, I hope you continue to look in on us as it's nice to see you're still around and keeping an eye on us. ? ;) ;D

Of course I look in - and if I can help with anything I give my 2 cents worth :) Taffy has done a great job and the neutral colour scheme is very easy on the eye. I wasn't aware of the security problems you mention, so if this one is more secure then that's all good.

It's good to see how people are getting on. Can you believe we've been here 2 years and 2 months now! Crikey! ?:o And Daz and I are now engaged, and we're getting married in 18 months time in the most beautiful place on the outskirts of Wellington - www.pencarrowlodge.co.nz if you fancy a looksee. :)

So yeah - life is fantastic with us here. Looking forward to the summer and making the most of it (trying to talk Daz into building us a massive deck off the lounge but he thinks there's other things we need to do first - we'll see who wins that one! ;) ) Went up to Martinborough a few weeks ago for a wine-tasting relaxing weekend for my birthday, and Daz's Dad is heading out here for Christmas so we've booked a bach up in Taupo and are going up there with the boat for Christmas and New Year - should be fun!

Anyway, best be off for now so don't forget that I'm still here if anyone needs any help/advice (just PM me - does that still send me an email to let me know I"ve got a PM waiting for me??).

Didn't you invalidate your own reasoning above, by replying to the post itself? I mean, I know it took you 10 minutes to find the reply button (we know, you're not stupid :-?), but now you've found it, does that mean that 50% of your reasoning is now defunct?!

True - I did find how to reply, but only after scrolling up and down this thread about 6 times thinking it must be at the top or bottom, surely! Thinking I must be missing it! :) Then I saw the tiny words at the bottom saying "you can't reply to this thread' etc, and then realised that I must have been logged out (despite loggin in only 5 minutes earlier). Really thought I was going crazy! Just think that other users who this may be their first time on a forum, may not realise this was the case and leave without posting cos it seems too difficult.

Sorry - just been doing a lot of online usability work at the moment and this is the kind of thing I've been working on so I guess it's at the forefront of my mind right now! Note to self: Must take off my 'customer hat' when doing stuff online outside of work... ;)

Great job in the update tho Taffy. Hope you and Welshgirl are still enjoying life out here.

Whenever you've got time, Jodie, it woud be really helpful if you could throw a few suggestions into the new Life in NZ category regarding recommendations for decent restaurants/pubs/fish and chip shops or interesting free or value-for-money places to visit and things to do. You get the idea.

That goes for folks in places other than Wellie, too, as you're 'on the ground' and can provide valuable info for others either coming to live in that area or even just visiting for a few days. I'm sure we'd all appreciate it.

It woudl be good to build up a kind of database for each area if we get enough info.

I voted "no" because of the security issues. By now I am mostly settled into this latest format, so won't gripe about how different it is from the old comfy yet leaky one. Let's hope this format lasts a while. My old brain doesn't take kindly to so many changes.

I also miss the "see new post since last visit" function. As it is, I have to remember when I last dropped in (oh so odious), so I don't spend too much time rereading posts.

One thing to look for when opening a category, is the blue 'New' marker against unread posts.
