There are quite a few Scottish areas in New Zealand. We stopped at Waipu just south of Whangarei and anyone Scottish would feel right at home with the road names. It seems they also have the NZ version of the Highland Games there too!

I for one love the pipes - played well, mind you. Careful with dissing the Scottish way if you wind up in MacKenzie Country, Nattydread! They might never find your remains :icon_lol:

You'll be surprised, Nattydread, how sentimental you may get after being here for a while ... :icon_wink:

You'll hear the bagpipes, be reminded of glens, lochs, stone castles and heather ... suddenly you involuntarily gulp and have to clear your throat in order to hide the emotion in your voice. Bet you join a Scottish dancing group within two years. :icon_mrgreen:

(By the way, I'm not Scottish, so not speaking from experience ... but I've witnessed it.)

:icon_lol:

I dunno, you can't please everyone, can you? ::) And after all the time and great expense I went to, hopping across the grass to get the pics before all the pipers disappeared..... We enjoyed it, anyway.

sorry MB.

I appreciate the sentiment in your pics..

It just doesn't float my boat any of that nonsense.
Glenda, there is no way on this earth I will be getting all sentimental at the sound of bag pipes..

There's always somebody that does feel all emotional and over the top with them but not me..
I was thinking about this the other day, and call me sad, but the thing I will miss the most about Scotland, is Dundee United, (that's a football (sawwcurrr, for our american cousins) team for those who don;t know)..

And there was me trying to be a bit patriotic for once :-/. At least you know I do have it in me....somewhere deep and dark.

oh I love the sound of the pipes, I used to play them myself many years ago. I would love to get some border pipes and learn to play those (cross between northumbrian and highland pipes, softer tone than highlanjd pipes)
