I liked halloween the way it was when I was a kid, but it has definitely been overcommercialised with the american influence.
Pumpkins?? why on earth do we make pumpkin lanterns? Traditionally it should be a turnip lanterns that we make in the UK
As kids we would make our own costumes and go trick or treating with the supervision of adults. We were grateful to get even a single sweet from the houses, not the begging that goes on these days, if we didn't get anything any tricks played were completely harmless, like maybe ringing the doorbell again and running away, nothing malicious at all, no damage to property or anything like that.

Halloween is one of the great pagan traditions and it bugs me to hear about Christians campaigning against it. After all you don't get pagans campaigning about abolishing Christmas and Christians would be considered racist if they tried to abolish the feast of any other religion.

Thanks, MB. I have lots of fun carving on them. I just wish they'd last a little longer before they got moldy. But then I set them out in the garden where I can see them, and let them compost in situ.
