I really like the photos, it gave me a serene feeling and at the same time
full of mystery.

I always like black and white photos and also cool colours pictures. My wife is a great fan of photography, I will ask her to view your photos here!

cheers

Gosh, thanks for all the positive feedback. I had my "opening" last night during the local monthly arts night. I even brought some nice snacks. Most people came in, grabbed food and left without even pretending to look at my work. Feh. But there were a few nice people who talked to me about my work - and not all of them were friends! Ah well. We'll see if my show generates any interest in buying my work. It would be nice to recoup a little money for all the work and test prints I made! Gotta make more art, though.

MB, I do recommend looking for a PhotoShop class, or even someone to help introduce you to it. But if you get a free or cheap copy of the program, you might want to grab it and play. There's probably one of those "Idiot's Guide" books on the subject. You seem rather comfortable playing with a computer, so you'd likely be fine. The problem comes when you get hooked, and then need a higher-powered computer to handle the work without crashing (I have a Mac G4), a really nice printer, an 8 Mpx camera or film scanner (or both) and a graphics tablet! If you do get into Photoshop, I could help with any "how do you...?" questions.

Well done Selchie, keep on pushing the gallery-type viewing. I'm sure you'll end up selling a few from them... good luck.

I finally uploaded my artwork to Picassa, and the links below appear to work. I think all the current digital work has already been posted above, but there are a few new paintings. I have a few more either in the works or planned. Enjoy.

Taffy, if you want to reduce space taken up on the forum, you have my permission to remove the images above.

Why aren't you famous, Selchie? I'm just trying to determine what makes some painters famous and able to sell their paintings for vast sums while others remain in the background, ignored. With my untrained eye , I can't see any difference between your work and that of many a well-known artist.

Perhaps you have to be dead first, like the old masters? If that's the case, I hope you remain totally un-famous.

Great skill you have there and I hope you go from strength to strength. And did Artemis really stay still long enough for you to paint him?

As much as I am blushing madly, I also bask in the glow of your praise. Thanks for the help with getting over my modesty.

I have sold one painting (sold before I took a photo) - one of the flower series. If I were more prolific, and put myself out there more, I might get more recognition. And maybe if those flower paintings were 4'x5', rather than 8"x10", they'd get more attention, too. But for now I'm a "hobbyist", and mostly show at the county fair. Humboldt County is actually infested with artists - I believe it currently has the highest percentage of (declared) artists per capita in the US. So although the competition is tough, the inspiration is also plentiful.

Most of my paintings are from photograps, including Artemis' portrait. I have the toughest time getting the cats to sit still for even a photo. But I think Art's pleased with her portrait, and is lording it over Izzie. I'm working on a portrait of a friend's cat, which ought to be done as soon as I have some more time for it.

The Still Life and Blackbird are the only paintings done in person. I've got to do more of both. I spend far too much time noodling with my paintings.
