What is the 30k for? Certainly for a medical waiver, it shouldn't cost anything like that as I've heard of several people who have applied and, I think, were successful although, no doubt, it depends on the nature of the condition.

When sponsoring your mother you need to be able to prove you can support her for the first 2 years in NZ if necessary. Your wife's earnings should be taken into account as well as your own. Is INZ querying whether you can afford to pay for your mother's medical bills as well? Would she really need expensive medical care in the foreseeable future?

I'm not sure if INZ will grant extra time so your mother can see a specialist but I would assume they would if it's they who are needing a report from one. Check with them if they will allow sufficient time for this. I'm sure I've heard of other people who had complicated medical issues that took a long time to sort out and they were allowed time to do it.

yes the officer has said that she can either provide another report from a specialist or medical waiver but the cost they have listed is over 30k..strangely they have mentioned that my income might not be enough to cover her expenses but they have not said anything re my wife or her income as she is a nurse specialising in cardiac care..someone suggested try going to an mp..in fact was just reading some cases of appeal and they all had the same end result declined... in india trying to get a specialist appointment is very difficult..can they grant an extension of time to respond?

Perhaps you were on here a long time ago before the forum was upgraded to this format and your previous posts have been lost. I checked back to refresh my memory, but couldn't find any previous posts from you. Anyway, good to see you back but a pity it's under such sad circumstances.

So sorry to hear about your mother. Unfortunately she's not the only one who has had a shock after going through the immigration medicals which are quite strict. These medicals can through up all sorts of conditions people never knew they had - silent illnesses that don't usually show any symptoms early on so people don't visit the doctor.

Is it be possible that your mum could apply for a medical waiver?

yes i have been here but under the saME NAME...sorry abouth caps lock...i had filed for my parents to come and join us and they have diagonosed so many things for my mother that it has really scared us as she is not as sick as they have made her look on paper..her main problem is arthritis and they have just in their report also mentioned she has heart problem which might require treatment in 4 yrs..now we have never been aware of such issues ever and this has scared us..i am contemplating a very serious complaint against this doctor because at time of medical she told my parents everything is fine..that is the story with Indian doctors..very money minded..i know my parents wont be granted immigration but the tone of inz is very negative and ruthless

Have you been on the forum previously under another username, only your post makes it sound like we've come together before at some point? What's the story with your parents' application then? Sorry to hear it's bad news.

We have an onboard consultancy dealing with immigration issues and also with jobsearch. They cost, of course, so if you don't want to pay money to find a job, you could look at the online job agents like the ones listed here.

To get a long term visa for NZ, you need certain job skills that NZ needs. If your job is something kiwis could do easily, then it's doubtful you would be granted visas. NZ is not easy to get into unless you can push the right buttons. You could try looking for work with an accredited employer and try via Work to Residence but, again, it would depend on the type of job and what skills you both have.

Hi MB I hope you can help me if you don't mind. My sister & I are interested in moving 2 NZ. Since we are not on the long term skills list/immediete skills list I know our best bet is 2 get work & work permits. My sister has gotten in touch with some recruitment agencies 2 try set up interviews as she is going to pay a visit 2 NZ and do some interviews. The thing is most of the recruitment agencies say they can only help once my sister has a work permit, but you can't get a work permit unless you have a job offer. Do you know of any recruitment agencies that recruit people internationally? or what is the best way 2 get work in NZ? My sister if she gets good responses she would want to go for about 3 weeks to go 4 interviews, but for her 2 go all the way to NZ with no interviews lined up would be quite a costly task. She would really like to set up interviews first. Do you know any recruitment agencies that may be able to help?

    Thanks mother bear!

    Hi Essexbird

I've sent you a private message instead of answering you on here. Apparently I'd gone well over the limit of characters allowed on here so opted to use the PM service instead.

    Hi Mother Bear.
After losing my mum 6wks ago I find this name fitting. Had a bad day today rang my sister in tampa height in tears I so want to do this move. But i know if i sell up move tobe near her if things dont go to plan IE job wise and have to come back I'll have no home and i def want get a mortgage with my age and the climate at present. I know she cant do no more but to assure me that with my skill i want have no problem finding a job i'am still a emotional wreck at present. This feels just as bad as my decision to leave their dad and go it along i cant afford to fail because if i do I would feel i'd let them down. REGARDS ESSEXBIRD

Summer in the Arabian Gulf

by MotherBear on 05-06-2008 at 12:27 AM
We are now hitting the height of the Omani summer. It isn’t particularly cold at any time of the year here, but the summer excels itself it bringing discomfort and a change of lifestyle that sees many people leaving for cooler climes or, for those who dare to or have to stay, taking up an indoor-based existence. In June, July and August there is a dramatic increase in humidity that sees us dripping wet within minutes of stepping outside
