Hey Nicky, I went to Oxford a drive during the summer, its a really nice little place, the drive there is stunning, you get to a point on a long strainght road and you can see the west coast mountains in the distance............. just dont speed tho cops everywhere !!!! The drive aint so bad, its pretty quiet which is good, I think it takes about 40 min to drive it, there or there abouts. Actually one of the nurses has bought a property there to and turning it into a B&B !!
Funny you should mention renting & buying. We have been a little reckless and are about to an offer in for a new house that us under construction. We have decided that we want to be really rural and have done lots of research and actually been in touch with some forumites from another forum in the area. We have decided to settle in Oxford. I know it is a long way out and commuting to work will take a while and cost but as I hope to work in the community within 6 months of arriving it won't be for long. We have spoken to a solicitor in Rangiora who is overseeing things for us and I have also spoken to Westpac and the migrant banking consultant has been helpful in arranging approval for a small mortgage for when we arrive and our bank accounts. I can't believe we are actually doing this but we hope iot will make the transition for us, kids and dogs alot smoother. The only drawback is the distance from Chch for socialising. I'm sure we will get used to it. Anyway, Rangiora is only 30 minutes away.
Bellshill mat .......... lol we actuallty lived in bellshill, just off hattonrig !!! the mat is now a huge housing estate
I was born in Bellshill maternity lol Yip we came jan and well you know how good the weather has been. My folks said the weather back in Glasgow has been in the 70s the past couple days,so that cheered my mum up,shes a total sun worshipper, shes dying to get over here for a visit.
Hi Meadow, We were from, west endish Pollockshields then Bellshill just before we left to come over here, we arrived October 2007 and have been loving it ever since........ 5 months of summer cant complain about that !!!!!!
Hi Alan&Moyra What part of Glasgow were you from,we were the eastend. And how long have you been in N.Z?
Hi Alan & Moyra. Things are hotting up here in both the weather and our application. I have a silly question regarding Chch hospital and uniform. What sort of shoes do you have to wear? My current work shoes need replacing soon and I don't want to spend out if I have to buy different ones in NZ. We have booked holiday accomodation for 4 weeks in Sumner - hopefully this will give us a reasonable base to explore the area from . I hope 4 weeks will be long enough to find a decent rental. We will just have to wait and see. Thanks for all your help so far. Nicky
