    Hi, Cindy!

I'm so jealous I can hardly stand myself right about now!

Nickydwuk headed me in the direction of Geneva International as far as getting a job and some help with the council of nursing. They seem very nice and are going to contact two of my references. Plus there is a job I am really interested in.

All of my paperwork is at the NZ embassy in Washington. I had an email about a status update so I called and although I didn't get any definate word, I spoke to a man who alluded to the idea that we don't have enough evidence to support our relationship. I was worried about that, and rightly so, I suppose. My partner thought once they saw I am a nurse, it would be easy street, but I guess not. We really don't have a lot, because of the situation - we lived in my mom's house, so no mortgage, rent or utility bills in our names. He was driving trucks, and usually called me from hotels while he was on the road, so no phone records. (He had a terrible cell phone plan so saved his minutes for communicating with the dispatchers and in case of an emergency.) My cell phone plan was separate. He was on the road, and I worked, so we didn't have much social life - hardly any pictures of us together. The guy at the embassy did give me some ideas - junk mail with my partner's name and address on it, and I had added him to my car insurance so I can send a copy of that. I have some friends who can write letters attesting to the fact we have been a couple and have a serious commited relationship. It seems like the MPs can sometimes intervene so maybe he can go that route from his end. Seems like one road black after another. Sigh. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever make it to New Zealand.

Glad to hear you are getting settled in. Good luck on the job hunting!

    Sue

    Hi Susan,

Things are going well. It's been about a week now and we're still trying to settle in and learn where everything is and how to get there and back (no car, learning public transit).

Looks like you've been busy and congratulations on your son's marriage date in Arizona. Waiting until after the wedding would mean less cold months in NZ so good idea! But, if you have to get here earlier, this means you'll be with the one you miss and love sooner so either way, good idea!

We just started our job search today so as soon as Mark gets a bite, I'll keep you posted. Wherever the job is, there is where we'll be moving to so hopefully I'll have some good news for you soon.

    Warmest,
    Cindy

    Hiya Sue,

I can't believe that after Malcolm making it back to NZ with your docs, all of it had to come right back to the States. I will have to assume that some of the initial process is done in the state before heading towards NZ cause this is just ridiculous. Thank goodness things are moving forward and they didn't lose your important docs. Congrats on your soon to arrive temporary work permit.

I read the NZ Herald and not to worry. We plan not to break any immigration rules and regulation. I don't want to overstay so we'll hop back and forth from NZ to OZ. I'm just concerned that no matter how many years of experience he had in the States, he'll be turned down due to lack of NZ experience. This is something I see in the States and everywhere else in the world with immigrants struggling to get in with a job offer so NZ is no exception.

We've tried for couple years to land a job just by inquiring online and no one wants to hire him because he is not in NZ. We just have to get there in front of their faces and demand that they atleast watch his REEL.

Funny enough, my parents came back from a long trip to OZ, Fiji, NZ then back to the States and mentioned the same things in regards petrol, housing and McDonalds. I'm not too worried as we won't need a car, living in a tiny studio apartment is perfectly fine by us (we're in one now) and since we don't eat out, we'll be able to stretch our eating expense.

My parents (in their 60's) are in Cali and my brother and sister are nearby so I won't need to physically visit as much thanks to SKYPE. Plus my parents have a vacation home in Asia (I'm Asian, my hubby is Irish/English) so not too far if I plan to visit in the future as the vacation home will be their retirement home soon.

The mining job sounds awesome with potential to makes lots of $$$$ but I hope the family business works out in NZ too. Your so open minded about trying new things, makes me like you even more. You are able to adapt...Malcolm is a lucky kiwi.

We are flying via Quantas nonstop thanks to our travel agent finding a great deal for us. We have plans to visit Fiji in between our hops back and forth from OZ to NZ so that's one place I'm definitely looking forward to. I can't wait!

I'm so glad you've decided on Auckland as I was worried that I'd be alone through our time in NZ. Wherever and whenever you plan to reside in Auckland, I hope we can connect somehow since I'm not sure where we'll end up either. I imagine the best place for us would be CBD (central business district) for we are without a car and will rely on public transportation.

Looking forward to meeting you and Malcolm.

    Warmest,
    Cindy

    Hiya Susan,

Sorry to hear that things didn't go as planned in the States for your Kiwi partner. I feel that we'll probably face the same problem as we'll be taking a huge risk by selling up and leaving for NZ without any NZ experience although my OH has more than 10 years of experience in Post Production Audio. I'm keeping my finger's crossed that someone will give him a blooming chance so that we can stay in NZ forever as I don't haven't any plans to go back to the USA.

Being that you are a nurse and going under the family program, I doubt that you'll have any troubles with immigration nor will you be jobless when you get to NZ. I don't know when you'll be making your way to NZ but we're on our way to Auckland in about a month. Just in time for rain, wind and cold.

I've never been to NZ so this will indeed be a real adventure as well. I know it's weird but I cannot wait to face the worst of NZ which is why we're heading there during bad weather and culture shock should set in really quickly soon thereafter. If this doesn't work out for us, we'll probably end up in OZ (not our first choice). It will all depend on my OH landing a job.

Where in Auckland are you planning to stay? When are you planning to leave the States for NZ? I'd love to keep in touch and hopefully meet up in Auckland.
