    Default Precious Metal Declarations

I've tried several times to contact customs about this but always get an error message advising I "try again later." Maybe someone here can help. Here's my question:

With a work permit or visa, how would someone go about importing, declaring, and otherwise legally processing precious metals (already owned, as a personal investment)? What taxes or other fees might apply? Are there special forms/declarations to file if shipped direct country-to-country?

Any related information or contact suggestions would be appreciated.

Here's some related links to look through. It may depend on how much you have and whether they think you're smuggling it into NZ.

Normally, if you have a long term work visa, your household goods shouldn't attract GST, but I wouldn't like to hazard a guess with something like that.

Thanks, MotherBear. I ran across part of those on the Customs website but a couple were new to me and very helpful.

Can I ask another question? Is the "Contact Us" form the only way to contact Customs?

    Thanks again.

This seems to have a choice of contact methods. Hope you can find something that works for you.
