    Default Total Cost of Emigrating

Can anyone roughly say what the total cost of emigrating to NZ actually is for the average family of 4 including all fees and flights etc...?

Me and the family are well up for the move but after a quick look around it looks like it cost us approx 10k including all fees and flights etc... let alone the cost of a visit to check things out.

I am a little worried that the cost could be too much as we are a young family with not too many free in the bank, just a little bit of equity in the house.

    Any comments appreciated.

I know it may sounds like a pain in the ass to do, but I have thought maybe AirNZ or others may give some last minute price if you were on standby..
We flew to NZ and paid for our tickets months in advance and it seemed the closer we got to our leave date the tickets got cheaper, then when we did get on the huge airplane, it was nearly empty...
So if you were able to fly to LA(USA) or other and wait, w/ fingers crossed maybe you could also make a deal of a lifetime.
On regards to emigration costs(EOI, police records, medical exams, etc..)...well there listed on the government website
I think getting started anywhere new is going to be rough, unless you have a great paying job or assets. NZ does seem to be a very expensive place to live especially coming from countries like ours...so I think adjustment is key.
    Good Luck researching

    Hi,

We are a couple, no kids...in total it cost us between GBP12,000 and 15,000 to move over. That includes all fees, flights, month of travelling and campervan hire when we got here, purchase of large household items when we got here and shipping of our possessions etc etc.

Hope that doesn't scare you too much, if i can help further let me know!

We are a family of 5 - all told I think it cost us about 18,000 including medicals which included extra tests for my daughter. The biggest expense for us was the dogs. If they weren't included it would have been about 12,000. That includes EOI, ITA, Migrant Levy, medicals, flights & container. We then had about 3000 left to set us up the other side.

Thankyou for the replies guys, much appreciated.

Looking at the replies it appears that nobody has mentioned agent fees. Are the approx 12k valuations with or without agent fees?

Hi, not many people on this forum have used an agent. There's no need. You can do it easily yourself as long as you're getting great info and support from us lot on here. I don't think there's much that, as a group, we haven't been through or had to endure. Whatever happens, someone on here will be able to give you some advice and help you through it

No agent for us either - money spent on an agent could be better spent setting up on the other side - unless your application is very complicated.
