    Default cleaning stuff before packing

Hi.. is there a recommended cleansing agent (apart from good old soap and water) that I can use to clean books, bookshelves, etc etc with so that when my container arrives, the contents will be acceptable to the MAF

The only things we cleaned was all our outdoor stuff, bikes, golf clubs, tools etc. We (hmm, I mean I as Lou just sat and watched as usual) used Jeyes fluid on everything. Once dried, I covered anything that was metal in a good coating of WD40. Everything arrived ok and MAF were happy so guess it worked!

thanks for the tip.. will try that out.. havent got much in the way of golf clubs and metal stuff but got a tent - which has been washed and been stored away for the last coupla years - and a whole bunch of climbing stuff - rope, slings, harness - all pretty clean. Did you bring things like microwave oven, hifi set, iron, kitchen stuff ?

We brought everything except the TV. We packed Microwave, Surround Sound, DECT Phones etc. Just added NZ plugs to them and they all work fine. We did not bring a fridge/freezer as you are not allowed and we left the washing machine but apart from that it all came.

Re: the tent, We sold ours as it was just too damned hard to get really clean after too many muddy Glastonbury's!

Why not? Where does it say that? I'd been planning to take mine as it is only a few years old.

Hi (Jons better half here) ...

We didn't take our fridge as it was an older model, that probably had CFC gasses, and as such PSS advised us against shipping as NZ can get a bit funny. Besides which, it had a freezer box in it, which used to ice up almost immediately so were happy to get a replacement.

Same story for our "old" chest freezer .. which we are now missing, and wondering whether we should have bought it with us? Might be worth getting some advice from the shipping company, as there was certainly no mention of fridge/freezer on the MAF forms.

As far as indoor furniture is concerned, you might consider vacuuming the undersides or other places where spiders might have left an egg sack. You might also double-check wooden furniture for signs of wood-boring insects (holes, frass/debris).
If men had wings and bore black feathers, few of them would be clever enough to be crows.
