Post Moving the cats

What companies have folks used to ship their furry friends to the other side of the planet? I have a quote from Jets4Pets which doesn't sound too unreasonable.

What innoculations etc do they need prior to going to Heathrow for boarding?

How easy is it to find rentals which accept furry friends?

God all these thoughts and we haven't even applied yet but like getting some practicalities out of the way early...

Thanks
Jane

This is a previous thread about pets and rentals which also mentions Golden Arrow as a popular pet carrier. . I thinks it's easier to find somewhere if you've got cats than if you've got a dog and it can be done with perseverance.

I believe your pet carrier can organise all the tests for you. Check with them first to make sure.

Finding a rental for dogs is an issue as by law dogs must be kept on a fully fenced section, which landords understandably don't want to pay for! Cats don't come under the same umbrella so most rental places dont mind cats, although some may insist on the house being professionaly cleaned when you move out, incase of pet allergies etc.

You can read up about importing pets from the UK into NZ here .

This old and brief thread has links to other threads about shipping cats/pets. You may find some useful, relevant info on the first and last ones particularly the post from Crystal Lil. No doubt prices have gone up since then but it'll give you an idea of what's needed.

Yup what Taf says is right. We had a hell of a time finding a rental with our dogs but cats would have been no problem you'll defo have to do the professional cleaning thing when you leave. We had to do it when we moved out of our first rental with our dogs, 4 bedroom house quite large $120 not bad eh? Defo worth it to have a roof over your head!!

As for carriers - not sure about cats but we used Ladyhaye for our dogs, vair competitive, vair professional and they gave us a full schedule of everything that needed to be done when. We just handed it to our vet and they did the rest

We don't have pets and the professional cleaning clause is in our contract too...think it's a standard thing to have done over here. Have to say it was good moving into the house knowing the carpets had just had a thorough professional clean

You might also find that rentals that aren't advertised as allowing pets may still allow you to have cats. Our house mentioned nothing about pets but there is a cat flap built into the patio door so I think it's worth asking the question...they can only say no!!

Vair true - the first rental we had said no pets but when we mentioned the dogs they said the previous tenants had had two dogs so they couldn't see it being a problem! Always ask. I think sometimes they put it on the advert as standard. Out of all the rental companies only Lodge City Rentals said that it was their company policy not to allow animals whether the landlord minded or not
