Any one got any advice on surviving the 29hour trip from Heathrow to Welli with a husband and two children aged 4 and 2?

My my, aren't we just the little question-asker this evening?? Oh wait, this is a forum, you're supposed to ask questions.....ok, go ahead.....

My advice - don't do it. Leave the husband and two kids behind, much more peaceful flight. They can always follow over after if they miss you too much

When you check in, make sure you get a seat away from them.

Apart from that, plenty of colouring in etc to keep them occupied. There's usually a good selection of kiddies films on the in-flight entertainment system, so that should keep them occupied too. I expect they will sleep most of it anyway, most kids seem to on the flights I've been on anyway.

You could always send them with the furniture.

Seriously, they should be kept amused if plugged into the plane entertainment system. Some airlines issue colouring books or sticker books to keep kids amused. We took a portable dvd player (which we forgot to charge up). Otherwise, there is just bribery ... keep a dozen or so new and different toys to placate boredom. Often the trip is so boring that they just fall asleep ... then keep you awake when you've crashed out at your NZ motel. Good luck!

After reading some of these responses the idea if me being in first class with my husband and kids back in cattle class is seeming a great way of passing the time when we finally make the journey.

I'm planning on taking sticker books, with the re-usable stickers, that will probably end up being stuck all over the plane.....but if it keeps them occupied it OK by me.

I can't think of much else that will keep the kids entertained and also keep them in one place. I think I'm going to end up doing so many laps of the plane that I may as well have hiked to NZ.

At least you won't have to worry about DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). They do recommend that you exercise.

I hope they do:i'm sure they will sleep some of it but weather they will sleep for enough of it we will see.

Think the hanging around at the airports will be hard work- we have to check in at Heathrow at least 3hrs before flight, we will have a couple hours in LA while they re-fuel and then a couple of hrs in AKL waiting for the flight to Welli.

I flew with my daughter last July but the other way around. She was fine. She actually enjoyed the flight. When we were on the way back to NZ we were diverted to Brisbane due to a sick passenger, she was fine I had the cabin fever.
