Hi there,

We are a family of four (8year old and 4 year old girls)and are seriously thinking of making the move to NZ.l have been offered a job in Construction managment $130K a year +bonus(and actually more than the UK).We are told this is a good offer can someone let me know if this is the case?
We will be living in Aukland and i am led to beleive the most expensive city to reside.

Look forward to hearing back from someone.

Great site already answered many questions.

Hi Mark and to MoveToNZ.

That kind of salary sounds pretty good to me although, yes, you are right when you say the cost of living in Auckland is more expensive. You could always assess which area you'd be working in and try to find a house that's a bit outside the city and cheaper, if the commute isn't too difficult.

Rates of pay according to INZ although they appear to be from 2005.

For more up to date info you could scan down here for some idea of salaries in the construction industry for NZ and OZ.

l could be working in any area of aukland in my industry so would not really know were to live,we are looking at the North Shore. We will also have approx ?170K to put down on a house so that should help.
NZ lifestye really looks and sounds great to me!

Take a look at this and this if you want to research schools.

Wises maps show where the schools are which would be useful when selecting where you may want to live. Click on Amenities, select Schools and click on the schools icon that comes up on the right hand side. You can drag the map around until you find what you want.

Red face

Hi Mark,

My brother moved to NZ 3 years ago and lives on the North Shore. He works in the construction/ scaffolding industry and I am sure he and his wife would chat/ email you will info regarding property, schools and anything else you wanted to know about the area.
The salary you have been offered sounds very good by NZ standards and you and your family should be able to have a comfortable lifestyle other there!
Send me a PM if you would like to link up with my brother and I will have a word with him and get him to contact you.

Default job offer

I work in East Tamaki, and live in west auckland, would not live in the area I work.

You need to consider where you will be working, if you work on the shore you should live on the shore as travilng over the bridge will be a pain.

the north shore is one of the fastest growing areas in auckland.

home is where the heart is................live where your happy
