Unhappy Additional costs for shipping pets.

Has anyone had to pay additional costs when transporting pets into NZ? I have been in contact with a kennels with a view to possibly kennelling our dogs with them for a few weeks after we arrive and they mentioned that there would also be extra fees such as the airport terminal fee, MAF fees & customs fees. I thought all fees were covered with the cost of shipping the animals. Has anyone else had to pay additional costs at the NZ end and if so how much?

Hi Nicky,

Unfortunately I haven't got access to my famous links file as my PC is down but I'd have thought any pet shipper worth his salt would be able to state clearly what charges will be applicable and who pays them.

I'll throw up this link I found while trying to hunt down something for you. It's about bringing pets into NZ and might be of use to someone.

I want my PC back. My whole forum history is on there and this laptop isn't user friendly.

Hope you get your pc back soon - it is like having your right arm cut off.

Thanks for the link MB but it only told me what I already knew. I wanted the costs at the NZ end and the shippers in the UK only say 'take a few dollars with you'. Not much help

Nicky, I vaguely remember this. We didn't know anything about it either but we had to pay a fee at the other end. Our kiwi friends picked our dogs up for us whilst we were coming through customs so we wouldn't have to wait around at the other end. As it was, it took us a while to get through, me being a 'wanted apple smuggler' and all and when we finally got out th other end the dogs were loaded on a van and ready to go. I can't remember how much it was but I think I recall paying our friends back around $120 for the two dogs, I'm not exactly sure. It wasn't that much anyway but you're right, it's not mentioned anywhere!

Thanks for that Dawn. The kennels I have contacted regarding possibly taking them initially have said that they will collect from the airport and pay the fees for us then add it to our bill later. So if I allow about $250 for the 4 dogs that should about cover it. Just more expense but they are worth it

Default Pets to NZ

We brought our dog in 18 months ago and collected her from the airport. I think the additional fees for MAF etc were about $50.
