Default Shipping companies.

I know there has been threads about this in the past but I couldn't be bothered to look for them (I leave that up to you MB).

We have PSS coming on tuesday to give us a quote for shipping our stuff (would be a shared container) and we were also thinking of getting a quote from Allied Pickfords.

Anyone had experience with either of these companies- they both seem very proffessional to us but nothing like hearing from people who have dealt with them.

Thanks, Beth

I couldn’t find as many old threads about shipping companies as I thought. Some related to shipping from the US and others were about smaller loads. These are the ones about shipping from the UK.

A few views on here .

Deb mentions Bargate in here but things didn’t turn out too well according to this and this . Maggie has a bit to say about her shipping experiences, too.

And another thread here .

An older post about shipping companies .

Hiya Beth ...

Not done this yet, but Jon and I were very impressed with the PSS quote. The chap who came out was very knowledgable and realy nice. He also gave us lots of alternatives to consider - shared, sole and a smaller insulated container as we have loads of musical instruments to bring.

Look forward to hearing how you get on as hopefully we'll be hot on your heels!

Lou

Well my quote came through this morning- only 2 days.

We will be doing a shared container and the quote is less than 2k so really happy with that.

Won't be shipping stuff for a while though (April/may next year) so good job we have somewhere to store everything because their UK storage quote is very expensive.

FWIW, Allied Pickford operates in NZ, so that might be an advantage.

We recently used Crown Relocations for a local move, and were very happy with them -- they also do international moves. We've also used Allied Van Lines, and were happy with them as well.

I was just wondering how things are going with the companies that deal with shipments at the NZ end, like NZ Van Lines and a couple of others that caused a lot of upset by double-dipping with the fees. They were charging MAF fees on top of what MAF were charging. I haven't heard any complaints about them for a while, so I wonder if they've been pulled into line at last.

Beth we are doing the shared load. We are not planning to ship furniture. Mainly clothes, books, music, household items. I got a quote from these people:
Removals & Excess Baggage Specialists: International & Overseas Household Removals, Excess & Unaccompanied Baggage Shipping Worldwide for fifteen 4.5 cu ft boxes.
According to their calculator Packing Information - Excess Baggage that's about 20 suitcases full of stuff.

The quote came in at 635 pounds (that's UK money units, not weight - where is that pesky symbol on the keyboard?), door to door Houston to Nelson.

The person I spoke with said the load will go to UK first and be combined there, then to NZ and who knows where else in between. I don't know how this quote lines up as I have only gotten one at this point.
