I presume the rules for dogs are the same as for cats. We are just having our cats vaccinated to bring them back to UK - its a long process though, you have to wait 6 months after the first jabs before they can be re-tested and only then can they return to UK without having to go through quarantine. We decided to leave our cats out in NZ with the friends who are renting our house rather than put them through quarantine in this country (for their own sake as well as for financial reasons!!)

That would be perfectly correct Maggie. You can't just get them a jab and sorted, they have to be tested on a specific date 6 months later to make sure the dog has developed the anti-bodies or you can't bring them back.

When we had Hugo and Daisy tested to check their rabies vacs were working, Daisy's came back positive and Hugo's came back negative. The vet said some vaccines don't work on some dogs and you don't know which will and which won't, if at all. So Hugo had to be re-vaccinated with an alternative vaccine by a different manufacturer and then we had to wait the same amount of time again before he could be tested for results and of course we had to pay again for both the injection, the test and the results. Thank goodness they were fine the second time.
