Jon, maybe you could keep your visits and get exercise, too. Throw a few darts over a pint, or stumble home on foot rather than drive! That'd be my plan, if only we had a proper pub in the neighborhood.

And what about all that banjo picking - that's exercise, isn't it?

Hey guys, you can't take a dog in a campervan they won't let you, I don't think you'll find a motel who'll take you either so there you go, fewer decisions to make eh?
KH we've got three kids as well and we did a month in the camper, to be honest there's only so much Pokemon battle re-enactment one can take in 6 foot square. I swear every campsite we left cheered behind us as we left. It's difficult to keep to those 'no noise after 10pm' rules with three kids wound up like springs who are throwing spoons at one another from opposite ends of the van to see if it hurts. Lordy lordy, you gotta love em.

I reckon you're gonna be just fine Lou, just chill and I tell you it all falls into place. Open a bottle of wine and get in chat room. The night I did that WG and I made a real connection and now look, she can't rid of me poor woman, she's wishing she'd just ignored my pathetic pleas for someone to talk to (and I know tis is true coz Taffy told me)

Thanks Dawn .. when you say they won't let you have a dog in a campervan are you referring to van rentals or the campsites? We looked at rentals and all seemed to say no dogs, so were thinking about buying one!

Things seem to be slotting into place ... house is on the market, had one removals quote so back to waiting for the next step. Got a horrid feeling our house is going to take ages to sell ...

I wish NZIS would hurry up a bit .. am fed up of waiting now :-(

Welwynrose gerrin radio room when show's on then you can ask as many questions as you like and I can answer them there and then. We'll ave another one this weekend sometime. As for the dogs you start the test programme 30 days before you leave. Our pet movers sent us a schedule with the exact dates particular tests had to be done, we took the list to our vet and they fixed all the appointments. Ladyhaye, the pet co. sent for the certifcate of export and aranged for it to be sent to our vets 11 days before flying so the vet had it in time to fill in after the last checks 48 hrs before flying. The certificate is the last thing your vet signs that says all the tests are complete and fine, that the dogs are the dogs we say they are and that they are not any of the dangerous breeds that are exempt from entering the country, that they're not pregnant etc etc.
Do they have a pet passport? Ours had passports but they're not necessary for getting them in to NZ they're just necessary for getting them back into the UK if you need to otherwise they'll have to do the quarantine thing. They do have to be chipped and I'mnot sure whether rabies vacs are compulsary although they are for getting back into the UK of course. If you decide to come back and they haven't been vaccinated you could get in done in NZ before heading back. Of course, everything will be fine and dandy and you won't want to go back anyway

Lou if you're buying your van that'll be cool it's the rentals that won't let you have pooches in them. Dog friendly campsites are few and far between though. You'll have to do your homework and it'll limit your choices, that's why we kennelled our two whilst we were travelling. It's not the same as the UK here, you can't just pull up somewhere near a field or a public walk and take the dogs. They're not allowed a lot of places and everywhere has dog designated areas. The beaches are off limits for dogs just as in the UK i.e you can only take them on parts of the beach at certain times of year and the really nice beaches are off limits full stop. You won't be able to take them to the touristy places either there are some places they are just completely banned from and that includes all kids play areas. You might want to bear this in mind as having Willow with you might prevent you and the kids doing a lot of stuff you'd otherwise enjoy.

Dawn - thanks for the reply - I'll try & get on the site when the radio thingys on over the weekend - our dogs have never had pet passports as we've never taken them out the country before - I'm trying to work out time scales for everything at the moment so we can co-ordinate things & was worried about how long it took for the dogs to get their jabs/paperwork sorted

You might want to think about getting them their passports Welwynrose, they'll get their rabies vacs and get micro-chipped to get through them, it just provides peace of mind. Be prepared to pay though, it's a very very expensive process all in all it cost us about ?10,000 to bring our two out!!

So even pets from the UK need rabies vaccinations? I thought it wasn't a problem there.

It's not. They have to be vaccinated so you can bring them back in.
