We might need more than a first aid kit! Lu is dreading it, in fact, I can see it making her ill. It's amazing how someone can have such a hold over another, even when you don't actually like them!

My personal favourite way of telling would look something like this or this and I think plenty of this after

You should write a song for her and sing it with your banjo. That way, it will be nice and jolly, and she'll have to forgive you!

I like that idea Taffy. I shall have to give it some serious thought and see what I can come up with.

Got to ask - why on earth would anyone want to go to Queen Street to open a bank account - couldn't you have done it in Manukau on the way back to Hamilton?

I agree the traffic in the inner areas at rush hour is dreadful - the natives avoid the main roads like the plague if they can. But I regularly travel to Albany from Clevedon, so literally from one end of Auckland to the other, and at best it takes 40 minutes, while at worse an hour. But have got to admit, yes it could have been me on a shopping trip - just off the Auckland Airport route is Dressmart with all of the factory shops, fatal to my credit card!!! Mind you I also like Sylvia Park... does Hamilton have anything similar in size? All those lovely shops, winebars, cafes, etc.

Perhaps I am a city girl at heart, but isn't Hamilton a city too????

I think Timaru is a city, and there's only about 10 people living there I'm sure!

You have to go there if you open an account from the UK because they send the cards and chequebooks there etc. If they'd have asked advice (they are not members of this forum ) I would have said to get them to send it all to Hamilton.

There's some shopping centres in Hamilton, The Base being the biggest. There's heaps of things there, Dress Smart, No1 Shoes, Baby City, Postie +, Arbuckles, DSE, Rebel Sport, Noel Leeming, Bond and Bond, Whitcoulls, Briscoes and some other places. Rush hour traffic in Htown means being stuck behind 5 cars at the lights, or being slowed slightly by an old person.

As you say, some people are born for the city lifestyle. I was born to remain in bed as long as possible in the mornings

Off topic ... told the MIL that "we are considering New Zealand" this evening as an option to us to being able to afford a bigger house here. Kinda went down OK - although not sure that she realised how seriously we are considering it. Still, step1 taken .. step 2 at the weekend!!

I dropped huge hints to my mother when I was going to live in Kuwait and when it seemed she was taking it well, I just spoke naturally to her about it. Just 2 weeks before my departure the penny dropped with an almighty clang. She thought I'd meant I was going on holiday, not going to live. That wasn't a great time, but we got over it.

We'll hold our breath once more, Jon, althought there'll be a lot of blue faces by the time the weekend comes around. You've made a start, so that's good.

Here is the song I wrote for her. To the tune of "Camptown races"! I have no singing voice so might get someone else to sing, if I get the time to record it.

The Grumpy lady sings this song,
Don?t go, Don?t go
The Grumpy ladies never wrong,
Don?t you go today

Going to fly all night
Going to fly all day
I spent my money on a long haul flight
Just to get away

Oh, the grey haired filly?s voice gone hoarse,
Don?t go, Don?t go
Sounds like Darth Vader using the force
Don?t you go today

Going to fly all night
Going to fly all day
I spent my money on a long haul flight
Just to get away

We?re off to New Zealand by next year
Don?t Go, Don?t go,
We wont miss you, we wont shed a tear
We want to go today

Going to fly all night
Going to fly all day
I spent my money on a long haul flight
Just to get away
