    Default Pulsarblu's journey so far

    Hi all,

I know I have been "missing" for a while from the forum. I want to let everyone know that I am good and settling well in Wellington.

I arrived on 11 Sep at about 4pm. I took the domestic flight from Auckland to Welly since I calculated it is cheaper and less hassle compared to staying one night in Auckland and then taking a 12 hour coach to welly. Not fun at all.... :o Anyway, I arrived with three HUGE bags with a total weight of 66kgs. Must be too much junk....I made the mistake of trying to bring everything over and hoping with my charm be able to convince to the airline counter staff in Singapore that 66kg is not OverWeight...! I got up to 50kg (Frequent flyer up to 40kg that I have)...so I paid a bomb for the overweight charge, a whopping 491SGD$ for the Singapore to Auckland leg.. It was a bad move, I could have take out some stuff and ship them over but what the heck, I already packed nicely and worried that the stuff I need when I arrived is still in shippment is not a good conclusion. So keeping fingers crossed, I arrived in Auckland and try my charm with the Air Newzealand staff, they are nicer and gave me up to 50kg...BUT the overweight charge is much bearable, it is at $5 per kg so I was charged in the end $80. After this drama, I made my way to the rental place at The Terrace, if you are coming in by the airport, I suggest you take the shuttle service. They are good and affordable and best part, door to door anywhere in Welly.

The rest of this week I am packed with visits to employment agencies and one employer interview. I have yet to land anything yet but I am confident I can within one month.

The room I rented is fine, I shared with four other flatmates who are students at Victoria Uni. Chat with them on several occasions, all are cool people. The first night was the worse, first I did not realized that the bed does not come with a blanket and when I knew it, it was already too late to go out and get one. I survive the night wearing layers of clothing and eventually used the bedsheet as temporary blanket so it was tough but I learned a lesson.

This time I am familar with places since I was here before in May so I managed to find most places with ease, just need to get used to the walking in Welly's streets.

Ok, that is all for now. I will keep everyone updated with many many episodes of my move to NZ.

Take care all and best of wishes.

    Hello,

    How you enjoying Wellie?

Can you recommend any suburbs to stay in?

Hubby's got an interview in Wellie for a 12 month contract and if he gets it we'll be relocating.

I dont fancy staying slap bang in the middle of it all again and would prefer a suburb. If anyone can recomend any please let me know.

I'm just pre-planning incase he gets the job....

    Hello Everyone!!! :)

I got a JOB!!! I am so happy and excited. It has been a short three weeks but very worrying period for me and wife (Although she is not here yet).

I finally got a job in Wellington CBD working for a IT services company. Going to start next Monday.

Next is to get a car (Company requirement) and find a better place to stay as wifey is coming over soon. Yippe!!

My experience will serve as a very good encouragment to folk still looking for employment or starting soon. I prayed, strategized and took concrete actions to secure this job.

Initially my CV was not to the kiwi flavour so I got the agencies to give me feedbacks and I took them positively and change my CV. The other contributing factor is I do a lot of research on the company before attending the interview. I also took each interview as a learning session and see where I can improve on. Lastly and most importantly I chanted a lot. (Buddhist practioner from Soka Gakkai).

I wish to thank fellow members, leaders in Soka Gakkai NZ, family, this forum and most importantly my mentor in life Mr. Daisaku Ikeda, the president of Soka Gakkai International.

Sorry it sounds like a award recepient speech.. :D

I am really Happy!!!!! There are many many many challenges ahead of me and wifey as we settled in our new place. We will take each one head-on and win them step by step. I will keep everyone posted!!

    Take care and cheers!
