1.Why do things look near on the map but when ya drive them they are totally ages away?
That's what I thought when I was in England. 'It's only an island. How far away can it be?' At least driving through most parts of both the UK and NZ are scenic. Try driving through western Texas/Oklahoma!

2. Does the water really swirl the other way when going down't plughole (keep looking but not convinced)! ;)
I think that Snopes.com says that the swirling difference is a myth. I could double check, but that would deny you the pleasure of exploring Snopes' interesting bits of info.

My vote on #3 is also for possums. We had a tally on our last trip to NZ, but stopped after the day we counted about 100 flattened possums.

I'm glad you landed safely and are settling in, Carolynne.

Aha! Defo Possums I've seen but also had a furry incident whilst driving and it looked like a ferret on stilts!! (either that or need to stop drinking soooo much coffee!!)

Have another question though, why are cockroaches so ugly and yukky and how come they just appear from nowhere uuuuuurrrrrggggghhhhhhh! Good job I've got a big can of Raid to blast the beasties [smiley=icon_eek.gif]

Girls all started school and Kindy and Mike now started his job, early days but so far so good. Felt a bit lonesome so made a biiiiiiiiiiig rice bubble/syrup/milo (kinda like ovaltine) and cadbury traybake and then managed to scoff about half of it ........sigh looks like I'm gonna have to take up this power walking mularky that all the women in Omokoroa do (its like a cult thing) [smiley=icon_eek.gif]

Drove to the shop by the boat club in Omokoroa today, even in the drizzle of rain I felt the need to pinch myself at the beauty of this country, just takes my breath away!

Hi Carolynne,

lol [smiley=icon_lol.gif] possums on stilts!!!! Ha ha....
Glad you're enjoying it so far. You've painted a pretty good picture, looking forward to it ourselves now!
Power walking will be necessary by the sounds of it if you've found a new addition!!! ;-)

You into kung fu kick boxing or something, Dawn? ;) [smiley=icon_biggrin.gif]

The women power walk here too. The local 'Curves' women's gym goes out once a week for a walk. There is also a half-marathon here once a year which is good incentive to get walking for. Must admit that since I injured my back in May I've been a bit lazy.

It is a good way to meet people. [smiley=006.gif]

I've never done kick boxing Glenda but I'd love to try it! I was brought up with four big brothers, I know how to land a punch - I had to learn quick - I swear I still carry some bruises!! [smiley=icon_biggrin.gif]

No, I run about 20 miles a week and people think ballet and contemporary dance is girly and feminine and wimpy but actually it makes you really strong and builds your stamina, you have to be tough.

I love all physical sport though, I'd have a go at anything. Gary and I have an ambition to trek the Andes when we've got the kids off our hands. [smiley=icon_eek.gif] I've just realised that could be never!

yippppeeee - more coffee mates! [smilie=Cheers.gif] PM me or Carolynne when you get here and we will sort out a meet up.

Carolynne and I are making it our mission to try every single coffee house in the area, and obviously we need to try the cakes too - now where did I put my power walking shoes??? OOh they must be in the container with the rest of my wardrobe! Actually I think I have an excuse for not power walking....I have a toddler who likes to toddle, and a baby who won't go in the pushchair so has to be carried in sling and only likes it if I walk slowly, and stop for coffee lots!! [smiley=icon_biggrin.gif]

Any other 'coffee mates'

Maggie xx
