Default Has Anybody used 1st Move Shipping Company?

Hi everyone,
I'm still trying to find the cheapest and best recommended shipping company for our move. I have had a quote from Bargate, (they seem very professional), but would like to know of other recent companies that you may have or are about to use?
We live in the midlands, UK.
Thankyou for any info,
Debra

Baxters for us, almost cheapest - but definately the most professional service when they quoted.

They have helped immensely with a couple of tricky items we are taking. Wont know until September how well they pack a container though!

Cheers

Nick

Thanks Nick,
I had a quote back today from 1st Move, which seemed alot cheaper at first until you add up all the other costs on top of that... so may stick with Bargate. (?3500 for 20ft container).

P.S. There seems to be quite a few of us moving around Aug/Sept time!

Hi all, been away for a while - sorting out, house selling etc.

Anyway I've had numerous quotes for shipping and for us (we're in Manchester) its between Excess International - seemed very professional and knowledgable and Britannia. They both quoted around ?3200 for a reefer (mother Bear mentioned these in another thread). Also got quotes from Cheshire and Migrate Global - but wouldn't touch either of these as they don't seal the container at your door and they subcontract everything.

Its difficult to know until they actually pack, but from what i've seen - the cheapest sounded unsure to me - not that I want to spend loads of money - but I do want to be sure my stuff arrives ok.

We'll know next month all being well - looking at packing mid August.

Hope it helps - but trust your instincts
Rho.

Hi Rho,

We're looking at mid August to ship too! We're going with Bargate afterall as I like their professionalism in regards to fast response to e-mails or phone calls plus they seem to include just about everything in price quoted, where as the other had many other costs to add on so it was going higher and higher.... pretty much the same as Bargate but just using my instinct!!

I'm dreading the shipping date actually! Then off to mother- in- law's to stay with for a couple of weeks!!! Aghhhhhh!!! (that's not aimed at her, just the thought of not being independant for anything!!!) ;)

Good luck with your move, where are you going to?
Debra

Hi DebD

Glad you're using instinct, at times its all you can do.

We too are going to be nomads for a few weeks after we complete on the house - as we have to wait for our youngests GCSE results before we can move on - and some of that is with the inlaws but worse is with my parents - I don't get on so well with my mother unfortunately - so maybe you may fair better that I will.

Anyway we are planning to start in Auckland, mainly due to jobs and availability of universities etc., but may then move on depending on what the girls (18 and 16) choose to do.

Where are you going?

Its so exciting, but waiting to complete on the house is so stressful.

Good luck
Rho.

Hi Rho,

We're going to Auckland too. Eddie's job is at one of the hospitals in CBD so we are looking to live just outside within 30 mins commuting distance. his hospital are finding us 4 week accommodation, then we'' be looking for rentals for us and Isaac and Eva (4 and 16months).

Last night I couldn't sleep thinking of all the lists I haven't written and the enormity of it all! No regrets, just the thought of getting through the mess!!!!
I hope your house sale is completed soon and youn can llok forward to just being in NZ!

I'm also trying to work out how not to own two sets of everything whilst waiting for container to arrive!!!! Mmmmm.....wonder if you can hire things from somewhere catering for this very problem?!

Hope all goes well for you all!.... keep us up to date!
Debra

All in the Auckland area. Some of them have branches in other parts of Auckland so it would be worth looking through Yellow Pages when you get to NZ to check for ones nearest to you.

DTR Furniture and appliances
Mr. Rentals Appliances, TVs etc.
Advanced Refrigeration Appliances
The Look Furniture ? looks pricey
Wilson & Nicholson Furniture
Allo Allo Applianz Appliances
Interior Concepts Furniture
