We used Bargate in Northampton (as others have), and found them to be great, and also half the price of everyone else.
Also, get special marine insurance for goods from a specialist rather than the shippers as the 5% of declared value is a rip off.
We used GRW in Los Angeles, and was 200 quid for 14k's worth of cover.
As for containers, for a 40ft, you shouldn't be paying a raw cost of more than 2k at the moment.
