It's a bit frustrating when we've paid a whack of money to have our cats vaccinated and microchipped (about 400 GBP here) and they still might have to go into quarantine. ?Makes you wonder why they insist on us having it done when it seems to make no difference. ?We still have a way to go before we will be able to apply for PR in NZ as we have to wait for Taffy to 'serve his time' as a permanent resident before he can apply to sponsor us. ?This could mean we may well have moved on to yet another country by then, so perhaps it would be prudent to try to get a job in one that is on MAF's list .

They just don't make it easy for us to take our fuzzy friends around with us, do they??!!

You might be right about considering the "rabies-free-ness" of any future potential home countries...the only thing might be that your cats may still have to go into quarantine there - and before NZ would accept them, they would have had to have been resident there for at least 6 months. I suppose each country has its own rules. Worth keeping an eye on the MAF website, though, or even contacting them directly, because I suppose it's a situation that can change periodically. By the time you're ready to go, Oman may well be considered rabies safe or free. For example, the rules for importing cats from the UK changed relatively recently making it easier to do - you don't need an import licence or a spell in quarantine. So...watch that space! :smiley2:
