    Default Room for the dogs?

    Hi

Wondering what it's like to get decent rental accommodation if you have pets, namely 2 dogs Ice & Monty?

We're looking to move over in Jan to the Hawke's Bay region

    Job offer is in Napier

Doesn't appear to be a great selction of rental properties on various web sites & these give little information about pets

    Regards

    Francis

    Job offer received 05/09

    Applied NZ dental registration 18/06/09

    Sitting NZCOP exam 17/07/09

    Hi Francis,

No solid information but there may be some nuggets of advice on this old thread about dogs and accommodation.

    Default Still moving

    THANKS MOTHER BEAR

Shall find a way to get suitable accommodation when we move

Still obviously a long way off as only sitting NZCOP exam on friday

Should be interesting as I haven't sat an exam for 20 odd years and can't remember the time I wrote with a pen for 2 hours!!

Have practised doing crosswords this week

    Wish me luck

    Francis

    How did the exam go?
    Did the cross words help?

Many landlords are shy of pets here, not because they don't like them, but because of the perceived risk of damage. Places that allow dogs in particular (many allow cats only) tend to be a bit shabbier (and cheaper). Don't forget to check on the fencing of the property for your dogs.

    Thanks

exam went well & shall have results in 4 weeks

just forgot how difficult it was to write for 2 hours!

it's a bit of a worry with accommodation as i won't leave the dogs behind although we've had plenty of offers

i suppose when it comes closer to moving i shall have to register with some agencies and offer to pay a premium for the dogs

as with you i noticed the accommodation that allowed pets generally did not appeal

i have not shown the wife these yet!

It will be a little harder to find a place, but there will be one. If you can give some sort of reference for your pet, maybe even photos of your existing home showing that the dog hasn't damaged it, quite a few landlords will negotiate, even those that state "no pets" initially. They may require a pet specific bond.

    That's a good idea

Lucky they have grown out of digging up the garden and we've covered previous area of destruction with a patio

We are fortunate that they do not chew furniture

Supplying some sort of bond was what I imagined may help

As we are planning on renting for 12 months before selling up here I would like somewhere nice to stay hopefully with a pool

I think it's going to be a big BOND!!!
