Palmerston North is a university town. Massey University is based there. You can live in town or not go far and be in the country. It is the community center in that part of Manawatu. You are maybe a couple of hours from Wellington. there is one train "The Capital Express" from Palmerston North to Wellington. A lot of kids who go to school in wellington ride it everyday along with a bunch of commuters.

It is not a bad place to live.

    Default Furnished

    Hi Fozzy
When we tried trade me we typed in furnished, and many others appeared
My sister hired her furniture from Palmerston North and seemed very reasonable price
They got the property from professionals real esate website
We found it helped to call real estates so they can contact when rental about to be available for when you arrive, suppose makes sense saves them advertising
    Good luck in your search

i'm thinking about doing a PhD at Massey Uni, so want to live near the Uni. However I'm a mature student and boyfriend will be working, so we can't live anywhere noisy!

Does anyone have any suggestions as to which areas would be good to consider?

    Many thanks

Hi Fozzy...my mate Shellbda and I are quite familiar with Palmerston North as well and have loads of mates living there. How old are your children? The best school zone area is Hokowhitu, but this is also quite an expensive area to live in. If you are dealing with a real estate agent they will be able to tell you what properties they have available in this school zone area. We too own a house in Awapuni, but it's rented out as we don't actually live there. Good Luck with everything and if you have any questions, I shall try to help...just got back last week from there.
