Auckland Subburbs

Have done some research on rental properties in Auckland City, and would like any advice and info anyone has. We are looking for a quiet area close to the beach, in the South part of the city, but not too far South. From what I can tell, due to traffic we don't want to cross a bridge coming from North, and I'll be working in Onehunga area. Schools aren't a concern for us at this time.

Areas that seem very attractive are:
Saint Heliers
Orakei
Mission Bay

Interested in local advice on these areas, and approximate commute times to the Onehunga area.

Other areas I'm wondering about ...
Remuera - seem to be alot of expensive properties in this area, but it doesn't seem close to beaches. just wondering what the attraction is

Herne Bay - are there beach locations in this area ?
